Check the clearance on the slide collar, it's too tight. Sounds like the blocker isn't freewheeling like it should. That's not a design flaw, it's an assembly issue.

Machanic saw what he called an unusual metal burn where the syncro's seat. 400 miles later same grinding problem especially with shifts at +3500 rps. Tranny taken apart again, same exact problem same exact metal burn. I demanded a new tranny. Dealer recommeded the ball go to GM's court because of what they believed was a potential flaw. This dealer is not the dealer I purchased this vehicle from. GM wanted it fixed again before they would even concider a new tranny. New syncros and gear was sent to dealer. Took 3 week to get. Dealer said parts were out of stock and GM was getting a new vender. Part came in two days ago and were rusted in the package upon delivery. Dealer said he would not put those parts in the tranny, they were flawed. I am still waiting for new parts. Between both repair attempts the car has been apart sitting in the shop over 5 weeks. My many complaints to GM have been a waste of time. The warantee complaint center is handled in Argentina and they do nothing but try to blow smoke up you *** whilemthey sheild GM of any direct contact. I believe that there is a milling problem with the syncros or the gear they seat on and GM may being trying to delay any potential recalls of the T6060. A lemon law attorney has taken on this case even though this has not yet been the third repair attempt to qualify at no cost to me. Call only has 2,000 miles. Those of you 08 Z owners who have 2nd gear grind problems who have been told it is because the tranny needs to be warmed up may have the same flaw my Z has. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE is horrible.
Go get yourself an attorney. Lemon Law attorney, and file a complaint. I guarantee you that will get them moving fast!

Same with my 2008 coupe and my friend's 2008 Z06.

People with the base '08 C6s have described similar problems with the TR6060 as well.
Yep, I was (I belive) the first to complain about the problem on my 08 LS3 manual car back in Feb. or March. My problem was with grinding in 5th gear. The Chevy dealer replaced 5th and 6th gears and the synchros. It's fine now, but I still have some cold shifting issues with second at times I think. However, my car has plenty of warranty left so I'll take it in later on down the road if it gets worse.

btw...are tranny issues such as these covered only under the 3yr/36 or are they covered also by the 5yr/100???

5yr/100,000 miles. Its a powertrain part.

3yr/36,000 is on your radio, wipers, power seats and such. The non powertrain stuff.

But anything which makes the car move and is not considered a wear item, is covered for 5 years and 100,000 miles.

Thats why blowing that powertrain warranty, for cheap 10-20-30hp modifications makes so little sense to me.

thanks again for the info....

And I agree...although I would love to add some headers to my car, not for the gain in HP, but for the sound. But like you said, I don't want to void my warranty and I plan to sell it in a couple of years and buy either a Z06, a ZR1, or a Viper.

9500 miles and 4 track days non of this cold grinding.

But once in a while when I'm slowing down and shifting into 1st I get a little notchy/grinding sensation. This is when hot and when I try to duplicate it, I can't.

Interesting... same gearbox is used in the GT500 poopstang and the Gen IV Vipers. If it's an issue in the Cheby it should show up in the stang/viper crowd too.

Whoa. Sorry to hear of this problem. Hope you get it resolved in your favor fast. Now I'm not sure what to shoot for, with the T6060 in question. At least I'm use to my '07 coupe.

My '08 has 3,500 miles on it, and about one-fourth of the time during near-redline shifts from 1st to 2nd, I get the type of ugly grinding sound you get when powershifting (which I do not do.) I am used to three T-56s and this TR-6060, and I am not even speedshifting and it crunches. As an ex-professional drummer who has raced lots of manual trans cars, I have good hand/foot coordination and I shift fast and clean. It seems like I have to let the revs drop 1,500-2,000 rpm between gears to get the gears to mesh. It's annoying as hell, especially in a $79,000 car that was meant to handle quick shifts.

I'll monitor this thread. This forum is the best for figuring stuff like this out.

Yeah, but your car stinks like a Superfund site. (So does mine...)

That sucks...

I have an 08Z with 6.5K miles (I thought I barely drove mine? lol)

When stone cold it'll sorta do a mechanical shake - not really a grind.
I just double clutch driving out of the neighborhood and its fine.

When warm, it has only done that once or twice - never really missed a shift since this is my first stick car and I haven't had to unlearn anything.

I get the slight grinding on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts unless I wait and let the RPM's drop. In the slow shifting mode it responds okay but if you are the least bit aggressive on these shifts the syncros are not doing their job....IMHO. I have not contacted the dealer about this, hoping more experience from owners might prompt GM action.

My second gear syncro went out at 2700 miles in my 2008, I got a brand new transmission. Than today my second gear is grinding when I shift above 4000rpms. So I took it back to the dealer also the new trans only has about 1500 miles on it...

Pictures from when it was in the shop...

I justed revieved this message from a forum member. Wish I had a dealer like his.

2008 Z06 trans

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had an '08 (VIN five thousand something) and the trans would wine like a bad rear end when you backed off - until it warmed up. The dealer went to bat for me, then the GM rep went to bat for me. They ordered a new trans. After the car had been there 27 days (and no trans delivery) they called and said come in and order another car. They finally finished the repair and I drove it until the new car came in. The repair and the new car were both fine. I couldn't have asked for better service.
Maybe I was just lucky. Treat the key people at your dealer well - take them an adult beverage gift bottle at Christmas. I think it works.
Good luck,
Pete
