could it be the clutch? its a unique smell and you get it when your stopped.

as far as the clink clank noise when u shut it off, mine does it too, and its brand new. probobly the different metals expanding and contracting from the heat. just a guess.

the other day i thought i smelled the same thing in my '08.

My 07 does not have this type of smell but when you shut it off sometimes you can hear what seems to be the oil "gurgling" in the sump. You do of coarse have the normal popping and cracking sound of the metals cooling off.

Does it have an after market exhaust? If so, maybe it doesn't have cats. That could explain the smell. The sounds you are referring to may be condensation dripping from the AC. Not to worry about.
