[ZR1] I think there will be lots full of unsold ZR'1 in a few weeks
#22
With most dealers asking $50K over I think there will be a lot of unsold ZR1's sitting around very soon.
Dealers are confusing the ZR1 qith the Z06. The Z06 was under priced at intro which allowed fro $10K mark ups. The ZR1 is a touch over priced in my opinion (loaded up) and the amount of 115K buyers out there vs $65K for the Z06 is a lot less and the amount of peole willing to pay $165K is zero.
Also, they are making 2000 of these - that may be the highest number of $100K+ cars produced in the US to my knowledge.
If you want one just wait a few weeks and the prices will be at or a touch over sticker in my opinion...

I'll wager you on that one.....a few weeks, what is that 3 or 4? Guys have posted on here their willingness to pay 10k and don't seem to have any luck. These cars will be difficult to obtain the first year...whether for MSRP or Plus....

Ok. Say there are only 1500 cars left to be sold for 2009. You don't think that we could find 1500 crazy, insane, Corvette nuts in this country like ourselves that are willing to pay at least 30K over for this car? Come on there are plenty of these people out there.... and there will be not enough cars for them.
I'm not saying you can't get a car for MSRP because I'm sure that someone has; there are not enough cars at MSRP to go around.

Back in 2006, people were taking equity out of their homes for the Z06. Now, they are upside down and the economy is in the tank. By December, you'll see these cars at sticker in some places.

And even if they could, it would be called "Price Fixing". That's why it's called a "suggested" retail price.
What WILL likely happen is they will sit on them and sacrifice other cars for the interest they pay on the floor plan for the ZR-1. It means that the Z06's and other Corvettes will go down to invoice pricing (or possibly below).
I wouldn't count on the new Camaro being in the heavily discounted group though...it looks like they are packing a premium on those as well.

I just checked ebay and a dealer in Florida has one for sale that's sitting in his showroom. Of course, he's asking over MSRP, but they only started shipping to the dealers.

The morons in Florida are asking $192K Buy-it-now.

They can't...it isn't in the franchise agreements.

What do you mean, "Z06's and other Corvettes will go down to invoice pricing(or possibly below)? They have been $2,000-$3,000 below invoice pricing for almost 2 months. On July 28, I purchased a 09 Z09, with a MSRP of $80,015 for $68,538, which is ~$3,000 below invoice and it's a 09. New 08 Z06's selling for $16,000 below MSRP.

I meant that in short order the 50K over sticker will be 25K and then 10K which is where these cars will start moving.
I dont think ANYONE is paying 50K over on this car. I also think the ZR1 will spur Z06 sales because when they ask $125K for the car you say to yourself for HALF I can have a Z06 which is pretty darn fast car...
Well see - I just think every dealer will have a ZR1 on the lot real soon because most are not selling their cars dreaming of 50K over sticker and the longer they sit the less over sticker they will get in 2 months vs being reasonable today.

This is a new market for the Corvette brand and I think it is very small. GM will overproduce the ZR1, just like they do on every other car they make. It will just take some time.
The first round of cars will go fast but I am sure sales will slow down just as quickly. Especially with the current economy. (Look at what happened to the first XLR-V buyers....)

I don't see the huge hype for the ZR1 that I saw when the ZO6 came out. I think it will hold on for a bit and then they will be easily had for MSRP within a few months, because I just don't think the demand is going to be as big for the ZR1. Time will tell, and it won't be too far down the road that the ZR1 will be yesterdays news just like the ZO6 and all the others.
