Default engine hesitating after 6k RPM

My wife and I were racing around (her in her 996 and me in my Zo6) and she thinks shes cool because she was able to hang pretty close to me. The problem is though the reason I didn't put the smack down on her is because when the Zed would get around 6k RPM's it would fall on its face. happened once before and a check engine light accompanied it, replace o2 sensor and it ran like a raped ape again. This time no light though. Any thoughts? it is an 08 if that helps.

Nope. Just double checked the infamous stickers and they are in place. Don't know how much good they are doing though because my hands were completely black when done.

I had a customers car do this. At first it was doing it over 4k RPM but it seemed the more you drove it the better it got. It was weird it was throwing no SES lights. By the time i gave it back to him it wasnt doing it until over 6k and it seemed to be getting better. We logged it and it was pulling 14 degrees with knock retard.

What kind of gas do you have available? You could just have a bad tank.

Dealer has it now. turns out they had already ordered both cats for it when the o2 sensor went out and they are installing them now. Love my dealer. (knock on wood).

Only 91 octane. But shouldn't the computer compensate? I assumed it would. Oh yeah, Chevron, people tell me its better.

Yes and no. It will compensate by pulling timing when it detects knock. It's not going to be smooth power delivery if it pulls timing. Was it unusually hot?

Most likely timing. I dont think throwing parts at the car is going to help but it seems like its what theyre doing

Unfortunately for her I always win in dominating fashion.... What??? The little blue pills I think are meant for the opposite problem.

No. it was about 88 degrees roughly. Last time it happened though it was around 100 degrees, had the o2 sensor replaced (threw a CEL) drove it again in 100 degree weather and, WOW, it was violent again. I guess when they pulled the codes it was setting off cats as well as an O2 sensor, it just took longer for the cats to come in. I'm not saying this will fix it because the problem is intermittent, but I have faith.
By the way, they are not installing the new cats because I stepped on it and had the problem again (no CEL this time), they are replacing them because of the old CEL... Time will tell. Wish me luck.

A bunch of us had trouble with ours last week.We always go to the same gas station.I put AV gas in mie and it went away.It seems octane is down even though it says 91 ,it's not.We tryed Shell next and everybody is good to go again.

Will try if the dealer fix doesn't work. It would be nice and horrible at the same time if your fix works, as I don't want to fear my $4.00 a gallon gas, minimum.

Mine does this from time to time. I think I have had a few bad tanks of gas but I am not positive. Let us know what you find. I have even noticed that it pulls hard in 2nd but seems to hit a wall in 3rd.

If that is what the codes are saying than how is that just throwing parts at it?

You don't have a code, and it's still falling on it's face. That means they are throwing parts at it. I worked as a powertrain engineer for Chrysler... You'd be amazed at the randomness that dealership techs try sometimes to fix a problem.
