I had seen your installation post before, and certainly got that you like the speakers. Unless I missed it though, I see nothing referencing a formal upgrade by GM of the system/speakers.
This is what I'm asking - Did this ever happen? If so, what year?

The clarity in my 08 Z is very very good, but the options for the radio/CD player and the options for sound are not very good. It's difficult to get the car to play much bass...sure it sounds clear and I do like that part, but for certain songs I would like the stock system to do a little better.
I have the 3lz, so it's supposed to have a better setup for stereo...however...I had a base C6 before this and the sound system had a lot more capability as far as music goes.
Is there a software/firmware upgrade for our receivers/radios so we can get better use out of them?

The 2LZ and 3LZ have the same setup. The Bose system is about all you can get stock.
I have a 2LZ and I got rid of the CD changer and put in a Pioneer Z2

I honestly thought the sound improved - but that may be the good ol placebo effect!
However now I'm replacing the front sound stage with a set of components:
Rainbow Speakers - Profi line.
My friend and I will find a way to fit the 6 and 4s in place of the 8 on the door.
I'm also going to be putting in a good quality 10 or 12" sub in the back. I'm going for quality, not noise.
If you have any sub and amp recommendation - I'm all ears!
I hope this helps

I had a 2006 C6 with Bose/Nav. I traded for a 2008 Z06 with Bose (but no nav). I have not noticed any real difference in sound. The Bose sounded pretty weak in both cars. To me the sound is muddy and has very little low-end.
Fortunately, the Z06 sounds so good that I dont bother with the stereo that much...

My Z can't do it. I have a Nav with this car, so it's possible the actual radio (receiver, however you wanna call it ) doesn't do a good job of pushing power or picking up different levels of sound from the music.
This is my only REAL complaint about my Z...and it's a small one at that lol.

I think a stereo from Wal Mart might sound better than what comes in our cars.

That's very interesting. The sound capability between my Z and the C6 are very obvious. In my base C6 I pulled up next to a guy with an aftermarket system with a sub. My C6 did a pretty good job of hanging with his system. I had several comments about it...the bass was superb and overall quality very good. I could easily shake every mirror in my car. I'm more a rock and roll/metal kind of guy but I do listen to some hip hop/R and B. My main complaint is the lack of bass.
