Sorry about your continued frustration. Jut pm me if there
is anything else.

I am coming really close to throwing in the towel. Part of me says screw it...make this your track car and don't worry about it. Go and buy another one that is issue free.

But part of me tells me..."you are crazy"...why would you give another penny of your hard earned money to GM after they turned the other way when there was a real issue?

I also want to customize the exhaust mufflers to get more sound...want to do my headlamps in black and a few other things I want to do...but I can't do these things...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I've been keeping up with your other aesthetic minded posts; and we
have similar ideas. If mine had been black. I would have gone all black.
maybe not ever washed, with a spotless interior; but the blue captured
my entire family. I wonder if you get to the interior.....
but the old adage about throwing good $ after.....
Anyway, I've never liked Vipers; but after seeing Redhawks mods..maybe
And I truly agree with the steering wheel..
My mantra is stay in the positive; if necessary ; go neutral.
But this odor issue has put everybody I know here in Miami in the negative. No one that had planned to get a ZR or Z is buying.
Even the big dealer is saying "wait."
I wonder if Jay Leno's yellow vette has the odor issue?

I always like your posts. Maybe if we pulled the entire firewall
the odor would vanish. But that may void the warranty
Would lighten the car though and maybe then the passenger could have an adjustable seat.(electric I mean....before the ****) starts

I have a smell, but I love it. It smells just like my 07 coupe smelled.

I have three without the odor.
I am waiting to get my hands on one of those new clean ones!
You're lucky ; enjoy it for the ones that are still battling it out with GM

There is that cad coupe coming with 550 in it...but that's another thread

GM contacted me today. The area service manager said that after contacting several people, including the VERY SAME person at GM that wrote the bulletin, and made another dozen calls to other areas, then came to the conclusion that the "smell" is in normal. There is nothing else GM is willing to do.

The bulletin stands and "time will make it fade away". How much time you ask? They cannot tell me...it could be weeks, months or years...EXCUSE ME?

That being said, I guess my Z06 is the very last Corvette, Chevrolet and/or GM that I will EVER own for that matter. If this is how I am being left hung to dry then it makes sense that I don't ever spend another penny with this company.

The ZR1 I was going to buy eventually...yeah, not so much anymore. I feel happy for you guys that don't have this issue, which is in fact an issue.

I feel horrible for others that have the same problem my car has and wish you luck trying to pursue this further. GM purchased 2 vehicles already and realized that there were others with the same problem and realized they probably would spend too much money making it right: how little do they know they will end up spending more money and resources saving the face they lost with me and other consumers. I have owned 77 cars in the last 17 years (I am 33)...I am done with them.

So the de-tox process continues. I will probably remove the carpet and all interior panels trying to find the source of the problem. Probably something GM should have done and not leave it to a customer to do but obviously they do not care enough.

Ok...I am done.

I had the smell...but it seems to have gone away now, after 3000miles. I only really noticed it after I drove it (got out of the car), but at least it appears to be gone now...I will probably hear about it again in 3-5years from the class-action suit

This may be crazy idea, but while the car is in the garage, in addition to leaving the windows opened, plug in an air filter with an activated carbon filter.. such as...

http://www.airgle.com/Air-Purifiers-s/39.htm

and put it in the hatch area overnight.

Probably a good idea.

I did not even notice the smell in my car until I read this thread and started thinking about it. It's not a major intrusion, but it's there at 2100 miles. Hopefully it will be gone by early winter.

All great ideas, although part of where the smell is coming from is when things start to heat up as you drive it gets stronger.

About the best way to describe it is, take a piece of plastic. Sitting out in the open it will have some smell to it of plastic. Now take that same piece of plastic and put it out in the hot sun or heat it up in an enclosed area and the smell really intensifies.

As some cars are not as bad as others and some are literally un-drivable, I'm guessing that it has to do with some type of curing process or the such, in which some items or panels / parts etc... just didn't cure long enough, now they are all compacted together making it tougher for them to cure.

Kind of like if you were to have a wet towel and place it out in the sun or open area to dry. It will dry out. Now if you took the same wet towel and put it into a sealed container, it is going to take a lot longer to dry out and more than likely produce a bad smell at the same time, which would be even worse if it were to be warmed up.

Big problem here, is that it makes you sick and these are Toxic Chemicals that can cause long term health effects.

GM has a manufacturing plant in China now. I wonder if they imported some parts from there which could have been related to this odor issue

It bothered my wife, more than me. I thought it was just the smell
of new leather. I threw in a fresh scent bounce sheet in the back
and now its not so bad!

If you want to understand this "smell further" do the following:

1. Go upstairs to your bathroom.

2. Pick your favorite cologne.

3. Open your mouth.

4. Aim cologne nozzle inside your mouth.

5. Spray twice.

That is the taste the car leaves in your mouth after you have been in it for more than 15 minutes.

The smell? After a few minutes you kind of get used to it but it is still there...and it shocks you EVERY time you get in it. You have to open the doors and let it air out some before you jump in.

But the taste...the taste does NOT go away after HOURS....

Default Let Me Help You Define The Smell Once More

Plus it is more like sticking mothballs in an oven, adding some uncured
polyester or epoxy....heating it up and then sticking your noggin' in there;
while pouring acetone mixed with battery acid over your head. Try that. Maybe we could possibly
have a match. (pun ?......what pun?)[/QUOTE]

I AM QUOTING MYSELF SO NO ONE HAS TO DO A SEARCH.
