[Z06] '08 Z06 Oil capacity???

I followed the Halltech procedure. Added 7.5 quarts, started car up for 15 seconds, added the final .5 quart. Checked oil and it's right up to the top of the 3rd hole in the threaded part.
IMO with all the guys suffering oil starvation at the track and such, I'd rather be at the top of the threaded area then in the middle or near the bottom!

Double check your manual. A recent thread had '08's either at 8qts or 8.5qts depending on issue date of manual. Your possibly looking at some other fluid capacity or GM put a Cummings diesel in your vehicle..........

The 09's hold 10.5 quarts. Early 08's hold 8 quarts and later 08's hold 8.5 quarts, so the owner should check their owners manual for the correct data. I don't know where you are getting the 12 quarts...maybe the coolant capacity.

Why did 08's start going to 8.5? Did they modify a cooler or something? Dry-sump tanks are the same from what I've seen.

my 08 takes 8.5 qts. and comes almost up to the last hole on dipstick.

Specifications show 8 quarts, but if you track your car, don't fill it over the center mark on the stick. If you fill it to the top you might find oil in your intake at a track event. This usually is about 7.5 quarts. Just add 7 quarts initally, run the car, use recommended proceedure to check the oil, then add the last little bit as necessary.

I think with the known oiling issues more oil is better.
I have had oil in the intake, to the point it loosened the bottom carbon absorbtion pad, but that was running at the middle mark. Since I started running at the top mark no problems...............
just my experience FWIW

Sorry but I disagree, only based on losing an engine when filled to the middle mark and not losing another since running it at the top mark.

oil will always get into the intake a bit anyways being the egr ?? or something is vented back for emissons, that little line going to the intake near the TB is where the oil comes from. Known issue and it's why the oil catch can is a popular mod.

I've done a few changes on my car already and have found that even letting it drain for well over an hour I only get about 7.2 litres of oil in there. This is draining both plugs and measuring out the oil exactly before pouring it in.
You should also drive the car after you did the change so you can check the oil hot. In my car 7.2 litres puts the oil level exactly right on the top of the dipstick hash marks where the small hole is.
Going to be doing another change this weekend so I'll report back here what the amount is that I'm putting in this time, should be the same as mentioned above.
Seems to be a wide variance as to what the capacity of the oil tank is on these cars (06-08, don't know exactly about the 09+ cars).

Use 7.5 quarts as suggested above.

The 12 quart capacity was highlighted in yellow pen. I bought it with 4,400 miles on it and drove it back from Dallas to Sacramento. Thanks for the numerous responses. I should have purchased all of the Chevy TM's like I did for my 02 Viper. My GTS also holds 12 quarts but I have only had the Z06 since April, everything about my Z06 is different. Love the gauges and the HUD! Thanks everybody!

Early build cars that have 8 qt capacity have owners manual 15865985A.
late build cars that Have 8.5 qt capacity have owners manual 15865985B.
I don't have a clue what GM did to increase the capacity of the system.

Your car may only hold 8 qts but late built 08's hold 8.5 qts. The online owners manual is for an early build.

So I did my change earlier today (let it drain for 2+ hours this time while watching a movie), put in my 7.2 litres of oil (again measured out exactly) went for a drive and checked the oil after I came home.
Yep, level is exactly right at the top where the hole is on the dipstick, so my car takes a little less than 8 quarts (7.6 litres).
BTW, for those that wanted to know.....................the movie was Duplicity.

I would do the change but only add 7.5 quarts in, drive the car and check the level. If it isn't up to the top of the hash marks on the dipstick then add the amount needed to bring it up to the level.
If you want to be **** like me, measure it out the amount you are adding to be sure you have the amount in that should be in there.
