Morning Exhaust Condensation
I have been noticing I get a lot of moisture, even water puddles from my exhasut in the morning. My wife actually called to tell me oil was leaking from the back of my car. It was actually just water mixed with exhaust soot. Mostly the water is just below the exhaust tips but puddles are also forming just forward of the mufflers???? Why would that be????

I know you have had your car for a looooooooooooong time Tommy.
So you have probably chased all the water out of it.
This is way more than my C5 which had a 416 engine, so I'm just askin.
But if you have any thing constructive to add, please do.

My 08 Z is stock and does the same thing your's is doing. I've only got 3300 miles on it.
It definitely makes much more water than my 03 Coupe ever did.
There are puddles under it after it runs for just a few minutes when warming up.

I actually took chemistry classes before you were born
Maybe you can tell me why I can't see the CO2 puddles as well
Seriously, I'm just lookin for some reasurance that everybody sees condensation puddles. These cars may produce more for some reason.......LIKE THE OIL TEMP REARLY GETS TO 200 DEGREES!!!!
I know you have a lot of knowledge and what would be normally expected. How about a condensation puddle forward of the exhaust tip (around or before mufflers) ...... is this normal????

I had a stock motor, then heads and cam on it, then two different forged motors and I never had water puddles under the car.
I have a feeling its because our oil never gets over 200*.....but it would nice to hear form some experts !!!!!!!!!

Just checkin' if you were paying attention. What you're seeing is completely normal. During warm up emissions are higher than normal so the catalyst is working hard turning NOx and HC into H2O. The puddle you are seeing before the muffler tip is from the weep hole in the muffler that is designed to let condensed water out of the muffler.

The LS7's cam profile is a little aggressive for a stock car, so it probably has really efficient converters to pass emissions, therefore converting a lot of NOx and HC to H2O and creating more water vapor.

See, that little bit of knowledge regarding the weep hole is going to let me sleep like a baby tonight!!! And I will bet most guys didn't know that either.
So, do you think Z06 creates more water puddles than other Vettes?? I only have my last car to compare to. And I never in 4 years had water puddles

It has nothing to do with the oil temp. It may have something to do with your exhaust system's temperature. If you're making a lot of short trips water vapor from start up is condensing in the exhaust system and sitting there. If you never get the system hot enough to turn that water back into vapor and out the tailpipe it may collect more in the mufflers.

Thanks, that makes sense to me....I feel a lot better now.
