Default Warning! Long Island Vette Owners!

I picked up a set of ZP tires from tire rack and was directed to have goodyear of Port Jefferson located on route 112, across from Ramp Chevy to do the mounting because they have the proper equipment, which would not damage the wheels. Well they "F"ed up my rims. When I asked what happened the guy stated that he tried a short cut. The manager of the place refused to make good and stated that if he had to replace all the rims that got screwed up he'd be out of work. I contacted Goodyear corp and was told that they would not replace anything and after awhile they stated that they would only pay for repairs. STAY CLEAR AWAY THESE PEOPLE DO NOT STAND BEHIND THERE WORK

Can you provide a list of places for us to stay away from?

It seems more often than not this happens at most tire shops. My advice is to find a good (high end) aftermarket wheel shop. They use hard plastic (nylon actually) tools to unmount the tire from the rim. Most damage seems to happen during this part of the process. Ask if they have these tools before letting them work on your rims.
I too have learned the hard way....

What a bunch of boneheads, I can understand they made a mistake, or they screwed up, sh$t happens, but not to fix them and make it right for the customer is
IMO, you have two choices:
Replace them and pay yourself, and move on...
Hire an attorney, I know it's expensive, but it's a question of principle.

1. Make sure that Tire Rack knows about this. And let them know via registered/certified mail, not email.

2. I dunno how it works in New York but here in California I'd have a small claims court case filed already.

3. Take pictures.

The machine has nylon, I saw it myself the moron admitted he tried a short cut, what ever that means FCK GOOD YEAR, NEVER AGAIN! and just to add to this, I told Goodyear corp that I was going to inform our forum members about how they handled the incident, they could care less. I guess it's court time. I have nothing better to do, I'm retired. As for the manager and worker, I hope the manager dies a slow death from cancer and the worker chops off his fingers in the machine

Ahhhh...some proper NY anger!!! I miss that sometimes...
I Grew up in Elwood. JG High '74.
You should be pissed, and it sounds like you may have the time to persue that anger. Go to the local TV station (12?) and see if they want a piece of it. They love these kind of stories. It doesn't cost much to do a small claims suit, and they are good up to $5k. I bet they will lose. It might pay to go back there under some pretense and befreind the guy who screwed up your rims. Get him to admit it again while you are recording one way or another. A recording of the manager over the phone perhaps, telling you to go screw yourself again might be helpful too...
Just a few thoughts...

Sorry to hear about your loss, I would take them to court, let a judge decide this.
On another note, I was born and raised in Port Jeff, Miss it!!!

Document everything, and head to small claims court. There is no way they should get away with this type of business practice.

The good year on 106, all weather tire. I think I'm going to try the vette doctors for my next tires. I heard they do mounting/balancing and I'm sure they don't screw up

Be sure to keep us informed. I'll bet Goodyear wins this battle.

What brand tires did you go with??
