Re: ZR1

Has anybody heard more about its adaptive suspension? I know launch control is there. I'm curious if the suspension algorithms will be tuned on the 'Ring for performance. Specifically not a static setting (like sport) but a true dynamic algorithm changing the setting at all 4 corners independently real-time to optmize corner entry, apex, exit speeds.

What's the transient response time to change spring rates (N/m) on shocks like these anyway?

Another interesting factor for the ZR1 will be the tires and their Friction vs. temperature. What are the temp's like in Germany this time of year and what's the odds getting a dry track in April?

I know GM hasn't released too much here, just curious and thinking out loud.

Excited for the times. Are they supposed to be posted today?

If it manages 7:27 or less... this will be a bad week for Porsche fans. That'll hurt more than the GT-R V's 7:25.

im guessing saying 7:35 based on the reported low 7:40's. watch the video also. it looks damn good out there running the ring

nevermind the editor sayin 1 instead of 7 over and over lol

After months of seeing the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 sitting on a stand at auto shows, we can finally bring you video of the 620-horsepower supercar in action — and you won't be disappointed. Shot on the Nürburgring test track in Germany, the engineers behind the wheel of the most powerful Corvette ever were flogging it hard and we have the lap times to prove it.

According to our shooters on the ground, the Corvette ZR1 was turning in lap times in the low 7:40s, a pace that puts it right up there with the world's fastest supercars. And given the damp conditions and rough, hand-timed numbers, you can expect to see even quicker official lap times when Chevrolet goes public with its Nürburgring data.

Introduced earlier this year at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a limited-production version of the standard Corvette. It features a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 rated at 620 hp and 595 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed transmission sends power to the 335/35R20 tires. Extensive use of carbon fiber gives the ZR1 a unique look, but it still weighs a few hundred pounds more than a standard Corvette Z06.

That said, the folks at Chevrolet aren't worried about the performance potential of their $100,000 halo car. According to ZR1 Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, the ZR1 will beat the track record for production cars at any road course in the world.

Looks like they still have some work to do at the Nürburgring, because the Nissan GT-R has already run a lap of 7:38. We're guessing the ZR1 will be able to shave off another 4 seconds without much trouble. The only question now is how much quicker than 7:38 can it go? We'll keep you posted.

I just assumed the 1:40 is the same as 7:40 because he was referring GT-R going 1:38 -> 7:38) ? (please educate me if you know from where and what the 1:40 is about)

shouldn't they set their goal on GT-R V spec? since it's coming out for sure and already have 7:25 lap time rumor going around.

Just wait for official record. a lot of cars' lap time are done in semi-wet condition.

Any person mistaking a "1" for a "7" in regards to the MINUTES of lap time around the 'ring is not info I'm going to put much faith in.

Yea, guess he saw my post... But he's still also wrong about the weight difference....

The ZR1 is NOT several hundred LBS more than a Z06. Where do they get this crap?

ok, 150 Lbs does not equal "several hundred Lbs more."
