Default Semi Z06 related - dealers still being asses on price

Hello all,

So today I purchased an 02 S10 from El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney, TX. They had a rather good deal on the small truck, and its just what I was looking for in terms of age/milage/price so I jumped on it. Only sucky part was driving 60 miles from my home in Keller, TX haha

Anyways -- after the deal with the S10 was locked and paid for I walked over next door to the main chevy new car floor and was looking at the Z06s, err rather the ONE Z06 they had sitting at 78K sticker.

Now you figure if you just bought one car from them and paid cash for it - they would assume that you are a serious buyer when you inquire as to availbility and pricing on a high ticket item like this. I was dissappointed by the guys they had running the new car floor.

Even with the economy in the crapper - and Z06's being sold at such deep discounts here, they still had the ***** to tell me "well these are actually going for above MSRP right now". I was polite though and didn't say anything to them about the great deals Conti and Les Stanford have all the time here that I see.

I know this is a boring non tech/useless post - but I am really excited because "Phase 1" of my Z06 plan is complete. Now all I need to do is sell my RX8 and all the toys that go along with it ,and then line up a little bit of financing, and then strike a deal with one of the forum dealers.

Cheers!
Jeff

I purchased mine from Vandergriff Chevy for 9K off. They had 6 or 7 of them.

Since they only have one they would rather let it sit there and go to a buyer not nearly as educated. If I were them, I would rather let it sit there for 2 more months to wait for a buyer that will pay $4-8k more than an educated CorvetteForum buyer. Corvettes are not their bread and butter, nothing wrong with that. Their accountants have done the math, they will hang on to it as long as necessary to get the better price. If anybody is clueless, it's the buyers that think every dealer is obligated to do what the higher volume [Vette] dealers do and then get on the Internet and complain about it. I'm sure they value you as a customer but they are not obligated to throw $8k out the window if history tells them they might eventually get it. Besides, what educated CF buyer wants a dealer car that has gone through "swirl mark" prep and has been molested by all of the other buyers??

On a related note, a Pontiac dealer told my father about the "supercharger" on the (then new) GTO they had in their showroom a few years ago. My dad even asked him to pop the hood so he could see it, which the salesman did. He even pointed out the LS1 intake to my dad as the supercharger! An idiot in that case, most definitely.

There is a dealership in CA that has been sitting on a 07 for almost two years now. Most that have had them that long are no upside down in them after paying flooring on them. You would think they would learn.

I do understand what you are saying FiveoDude... and it does make 100% sense, i found it rather amusing though because 20 minutes earlier when I was buying the truck from them (after the deal had been set and was locked) that they were happy they could sell me the truck because the economy was slow and they haven't been doing too well.

I'm sure there is some BS in there but even if its partially true you think their "bean counters" would instruct their floor guys to not be so aggressive with the Z06 in terms of high balling the price if they were really in a stink about the economy.

Here in the Phoenix area, Ford dealers are still asking anywhere from 5-20k over sticker for GT500's and Chevrolet dealers will sell a Z06 for invoice. Go figure. Nice to be talking to a dealer about less than sticker instead of over..........

Hell, go over to Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine. I got $3k off in Dec of 07, for my 08 beauty. I know that'ws not a killer deal but I was very happy. Didn't have to truck it in from a Forum dealer with the associated costs and, kept a local dealer relationship. Ask for Dale, he's been there nearly 30 years.

I found that dealing with a larger local dealer over the phone got me a better price than the forum guys are posting. Partially because they have a selection of pre-price increase units, so if you can still get 8000-8500 off msrp, and not pay any shipping or courtesy delivery fees. Don't go in to the store until they have agreed to your price. I used the GM website to check inventory and just emailed the dealers with the car I wanted and narrowed it down to two and found the one that agreed to my price. Easy as pie.

John Sullivan Chevrolet has car 1G1YY26E175102522 which as of today has been in inventory for 602 days

Dealer invoice price 66,606.10 MSRP - 73,195.00

So after paying advertising, paying for the loan to buy the car for the dealership, salesman cost, overhead on the vehicle for 600 days You start to eat into that 6,500.00 profit margin built into the window sticker.

You would think they would learn.
I think this statement stands on it's own.

Geeze - 602 days.

To be 100% honest even if they marked it down to compete with a forum dealer, I would not want a Z06 that has sad idle for damn near two years on a lot.

Idle isn't the word. That Z has had unknown numbers of droolers hanging and leaning on the car for those 602 days. I guarantee the finish is less than perfect. I personally wouldn't touch it unless it was priced considerably less than the best forum dealer's price.

One of the main reasons I don't have a GT500. Was a huge mustang fan, I've owned 3.

I walked in to Thorobred on Arizona Ave in Chandler and without any dicking around walked out with an 08 Z for under invoice that had only been on their lot 4 days.
