It's an old Shelby name tacked on to a GT 500 from the sixties. He's bringin' it back.

Its so sad to me. I have been a mustang fan for years, I even own a new GT stang, but whatever they were thinking at ford when they decided to release this car is beyond me. No matter how hard they try, they can not overcome the weight and aerodynamics of the mustang body, at least not with a street legal car. It is so sad to me, as I personally think the design is great, but you are talking performance specs equal to, if not a tad better than the GT500. I just don't get it......

I guess that's why I am lurking on this forum instead now.

I resemble that remark. I love Mustangs for what they are. I love the Corvette for what it is too. I'm a car guy, what can I say.

It's called "Prostitution". Shelby, with all due respect, needs to just fade away. The sixties are over. I lost faith in him when he sold out to Chrysler.

Remember the Shelby Charger/Omni?

Actually, I was watching speed channel where they were talking about the "king of the road" moniker. They said it was originally planned by Chevrolet for the Corvette as a "secret" program that was under development. The secret got out to Ford and they stuck it on the mustang before Chevy officially released the vette. Not sure which models were involved or which year cars but this is definately what was said. The show was on about 6 months ago.

And from what I've read, the base C6 with the 405 HP LS2 will outperform the 500 HP mustang KR in almost every catergory.

Absolutely correct. Its easy to forget that we are car enthusiast and the auto manufacturers are profit enthusiasts. If they think it will sell, they will make it. Take the Ron Fellows Z06. Why? And why in white? And who regrets those stripes on their fenders? Its really no different than the Mustang KR. Its a limited edition model that was derived from an existing model and just re-badged.

As i said in an earlier post, it was first put on a Shelby GT 500 in the sixties(1968). GT500 K/R . A limited production Mustang Cobra with more Shelby go fast goodies to boot. The 2008 model is the same deal.
The K/R is just a way for Ford to put more of a retro spin on a retro car and make some money. It is basically an upgraded cobra. it has good power and torque but we all know the story when it comes to a Mustang. They can't get all that power to the ground and it if the new Zr1 is a pig, this thing is Hogzilla.

Hah! Remember when the then new '01 Z06 and later '06 Z06 was dubbed "King of the Hill"??? The new ZR1 just de-throned the King. So much for names. The Mustang sounds better simply called the GT500KR.

Still better than Toyota saying it! American car company, say what you want! Mustangs are cool also!
