GM accepts Viper SRT10 challenge, confirms "Blue Devil"
#2
Sweet. Lutz is a smart guy. GM will wait until this summer to get their hands on a new Viper. Test it over and over compared to the Blue Devil to make sure its a better car. Then they will release the Blue Devil to the open market. My guess is Spring 08.

If Dodge didn't have him, the Viper would have never been.
Now that we have Lutz,
the Viper doesn't have a chance.
Even IF the Viper did outperform the Corvette some how,
there is no question the Corvette is the better car to drive.
Although I am a horsepower junkie,
I'd rather drive a 400hp C6 than a 600hp Viper.
Sad,
but true.
Maybe DC will finally do a COMPLETE redesign of the Viper and release a totally new car.
Until then,
the only thing that the Viper offers is exclusivity at the cost of comfort.
No deal.

Dodge should have released the Firepower with a better interior and smaller dimensions.

A 6.1 Hemi based sports coupe would have been interesting with a price point AROUND $40k.
It would have been nice for the base Corvette coupe to have some sort of competition.
At the $40k price point,
the decision to buy a Corvette coupe is a NO BRAINER.
At the $90k price point,
the Viper is truly a poor choice.

Viper will be king of the hill for one year only..
Man, it's like the world is going backwards. First, the Z06 was behind for so many years in performance, and now, Viper is the one playing catch up to the Vet..

Hold on there buddy!
The new Viper hasn't been released yet,
let alone tested.
On paper it's suposed to be faster,
but only a heads up comparo will determine that.
Even with less power,
the Corvette will be the better street car.

There doesn't need to be a test. A 600-650 hp, lighter Vet is going to be faster than a 600 bhp, heavier Viper.

One of the keys will always be that the Viper has 8.4 liters of naturally aspirated displacement and the ability to use all of that displacement has barely been tapped. Cam duration, lift, compression on the new Viper are relatively mild, so there is plenty of room for more power.
Also, Chrysler is supposedly working on an all-new Viper chassis for release 2009-2010 (likely 2010), that will be lighter.
There is no question the base Vette is a great value at $40 - 50K.
The new Viper will be competing with the Z06, and the Blue Devil will one-up the 2008 Viper, but Chrysler will answer that.

Perfectly put!!
The Gen II Viper GTS was a much better looking car than Gen III. The Viper Competition Coupe should have been the street car. R & D from DC for the Viper has been -0-. Even the pumped-up 600hp Viper III.1 is just a cut and paste with no meaningful exterior or interior changes. DC needs to seriously step up and produce an entirely new car or park it and focus on the 300 M SRT and Neon SRT. Hats off to GM for producing the Z06 (and Blue Devil) at reasonable prices (comparatively speaking).

I think so i didn't see it in the article......I think it was in MT were i read that....
From what they said seems like the main reason for getting rid of the Run Flats was to reduce unsprung weight to improve the ride/handling dynamics.......

GM can not afford to relax, time to bolt on the hardware and fight for the top dog honors .
The Lutz man needs to finally earn his GM pay before he retires.
