Nothing improved that makes a Z06 a better Z06.

Buy the 2006 for less money.

I disagree. Roof, axle, stereo controls, insulation, glove box, chrome wheels...did I mention the roof?

The following items don't make what I bought a Z06 for any better;
-Chrome-don't care for it. Get the car with painted wheel and buy after market wheels. Then you will have 2 sets.
-Axil-there hasn't been any new reprots of failure-besides, who said GM actually fixed the problem for 2007
-stereo controls-the sound from this machine is controlled by my right foot. If they chaged that, I'd be pissed. When I want tunes, the touch panel is perfect.
-insulation-okay, you got me there
-glove box???? wow, they gave a couple more cubic inches
-roof-so far no problems-I agree that that is an issue, but will be repaired by GM

Lets add it up;
Fro about $5-6K more you get insulation and larger glove box-money not well spent

You left out one major upgrade for '07-the new FOB. I truly wish mine came with it-but isn't even shipping the '07 with them yet.

I'm not putting down the changes or the price of the 2007, but the question asked, "is the '07 much more improved than the '06. And the answer to that is NO!

Default The answer is YES!

My 07 Z06 is a better car than my early build 06 Z06. Fit and finish are way better.No rattles from the air scoops on the side. Interior noise and heat are no longer objectionable. The tranny tunnel seems to have been shielded..the interior has far less road noise.
I happen to like the steering wheel controls for audio...and I guess I prefer the appearance without the nav screen. Definitely a "tighter" fit and finish..more of a production version as opposed to the prototype qualtities of my former Z06.

Cheers

P.S.
Also like the Machine Silver paint way better than the swirly black.

I never had any rattles or squeks from my 2006 ZO6. Yes depending on the road there is more road noise than I care for
NO fit or finish issues with mine but it is in MS and was a NCM delivery car...not sure that makes much of a difference

The roof issue aside, I'd say its a toss-up. Having more insulation would be nice and the new key fob is clearly a step-up, but the other enhancements on the 07 probably aren't worth the base price increase, particularly if you can find a low mileage 06 at a good price.

I sincerely doubt you'd be dissatisfied with either car as long as the roof issue is resolved.

Well said...............I'm not that sure that all the extra money is worth it for the heat/ sound insulation, steering wheel controls and "upgraded radio", strengthened half shafts, glove box, ect. Some '07 roofs have come off also...............

My Z is perfect, tight, quiet and fassssssssst.........

Any C6Z built on or after Aug 3, 2006 (I am pretty sure this was the day), got the new SMC roof rather than the foam applied roof. Mine was built on Aug 3 and my VIN was 1044041 btw! So far I have not heard any reports from any SMC roof Z's that have had any issues.

Jeff, check your vin. For some reason I think the last 7 should start with a 51xxxxx.

Totally agree with you!! The sole reason I have a 1LZ coming to the Museum on 9/22...I do not need the thrills...just the car itself....and what it has under the hood...

Xtra weight,it will still be fast.I raced one with Kooks heasers,and cam in my stock 575 M and it was a tie or some one won by 3".They get a bit unstable over 150 where the insulated Farrari still has ***** and goes with insulation,I added headers and cat back so I could hear the motor,this was really a Caddy.
I build at least 1 550 rwhp Zeeeeees at Xtreme here in AZ. never heard a rattle just plain fun.I may be going overseas for 2mos.when I get back just gotta have 1,how you beat any C6 for value in todays market.
If you need mods call us at Xtreme for a true dream car,480 517 4969
Tempe AZ.David
PS the race was just yesterday,and it was done on a 1.25 mile closed road.

And, I'm sure there is someone out there who will be able to say, the build quality of my 06 was much better than my 07. Oh, the hazards of using single data points to draw conclusions. BTW, my 06 has had zero flaws, squeaks, or rattles in 6K miles.

That's about like saying, "I once had a auto accident on Tuesday........so I've decided to never leave the house on Tuesday again.

The truth is the cars are nearly identical. If you have trouble with an 06, the replacement parts will be the same ones used in 07s. In some cases they may be better, in some cases they may not. It's always the luck of the draw.

Moreover, extra bling and insulation doesn't matter to serious enthusiasts..................
