Default Corvette SS/Blue Devil is ON!![Mergedx26]

Off-again/on-again super-Corvette is definitely on, GM performance cars chief says

AutoWeek | Published 05/01/06, 2:38 pm et

That off-again/on-again super-Corvette is definitely on, according to General Motors performance cars chief Tom Wallace.

Wallace, who replaced recently retired Corvette chief engineer Dave Hill, tells AutoWeek the biggest challenge facing the so-called Blue Devil Corvette is figuring out how to get 600 hp to the ground in such a way that it can be handled by a driver with the money to buy the car.

Wallace said GM is considering requiring that Blue Devil—and even Z06—buyers attend a driver school as part of the price of admission.

So can we PLEASE get that new section made for it on the fourm.

Call it what you want, cars get better every year and by default will surpass what we're driving now whether it's a Blue Devil, SS, etc.

Let's see what the car is first. If it's an CF bodied Z06 with an engine upgrade it will not get it's own section.

I have been saying this since I went to Spring Mountain. I was amazed at what the car can really do !! Seeing how many posts there are every week of someone destroying a new Z06 in the first month I'd say it's time to do something like this.

blows me away that people want more power.....most of the high hp vettes i have seen CANNOT put the power down....the 600-800 rear horse cars just break the rear tires loose in any gear/ at any speed.....damn,things get REALLY scarry when the rear tires start breaking loose at 110 ....[ i am not talking dedicated drag/ race cars]
so i agree with Wallace, figuring out how to get the car to be driveable is the hardest thing...

I know very few people who can handle that kind of power....school should be mandatory for that car....

That would be a monster. I hope they make it look significantly different from the Z06 and C6.

That's where the problem is. Some people have the money but no driver skills.

Forum members don't seem to be having problems with the current power and should be able to handle 600+ hp also.

I agree. That's my only concern.

If it's the Z06 body with some racer boy body kit and a smaller supercharged engine I am out. Even if it's Carbon Fiber.

Even with that power I'd rather NA.

For me to buy this car I want the complete package.

I want it to be a special engine that's supercharged that can handle upgraded power.

I want it to be obvious it's an SS..not just a wing and some badges.

I want a different suspension setup.

Lighter would be nice but 3100lbs is fine.

A supercharged car?

You kidding me?

I'll be doing a pully swap at the museum when I take delivery.

I want it to look as cool as a Lambo ... with twice the power ... and half the price ...

However, it may get some type of AWD system ( on demand ) to help put power to the road.

I'm sure GM has made some recent improvements in their AH/TC .. which they may show us for the first time on this car.

AWD with Carbon Fiber drive shafts, and a true six speed paddle shifter.

Are you ready to spend $110,000+ for the Corvette? Chevy would even be ahead by simply reducing the weight by 400lbs, increasing the exhaust valve size as well as the exhaust ports and offering non runflats w/ a spare. Something in the order of 550HP and 2700lbs, with stickier tires will do the trick. 4.9 to 1 power ratio will suffice. AND just just trans and axle strength for the final touch.

AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!!

I am so excited for this car, 680 is a nice number! Like others have said though GM is really going to have to distinguish this car from the Z06 in terms of appearance and not just performance, hopefully they get it right!
