Something about:

"...after 10 beers, Hanz thought it would be fun to take one of the cars from the lot out for a spin..."

I don't think they've posted a ring time for the new 997Gt3 yet. Are we being a little pre-mature? Check out the ring times under the wine and cheese thread. Pretty eye opening. The Manthey Gt3 with 413 hp ran a great time. The new 997 has 415 hp. Should be interesting. Usually, the Gt3 can outrun or at least, keep pace with the TT. Draw your own conclusion.

I recently decided against a ZO6 and got a 06 997 Carrera S. If I had heard about the GT3 I would have waited for that.

I love the ZO6, don't get me wrong. The Porsche was just better suited for me.

i LOVE my C6Z06

BUT..the 997GT3 is one of the few car's I'd get over it.

Not any of the new 997's other than the GT3. I've even wrung out a 430 and prefer the Z06.

The 997GT3 and the 360 Challenge Stradale are the only "reasonably priced" cars I'd take over my Z06. THE ONLY ONES.

Of course once we get into the area of $300k + there are a few other choices.

The basic Euro price for the 911 GT3 is 93,000 Euros. In Germany, it will be offered including sales tax and country-specific requirements for 108,083 Euros. In the USA, the new GT3 will be available in dealerships from August 2006 for 106,000 Dollars (excluding tax).

Money is no object, wow! Start a race team and hire that driver in the video. At least you'll make money making videos for Porsche.

GT3 is the best out of the box track car hands down, but you said money is no object. Buy a Carrera GT and mod it.

I traded my 996 TT for a C6Z and believe it was an awesome trade, however money is an object for me or I would have them both.

I don't get the logic of this. Even if the GT3 can keep pace with the TT, so what. If A>B, C=B, then A is still > C. (Author's Note for Logic Challenged. A: Z; B: TT; C: GT3)

So, 415hp would somehow put up a much better time than the 413hp. Wow, 2 hp makes a difference.

Your post is frothing with irrational longing for the GT3 to best the Z. Sorry, to disappoint you, with the way it looks, it ain't gonna happen!

I think you ought to know that the 06 Z06 is much better car than anything porcshe has to offer. The GT3 does not compare as far as performace, just look at the nurburgring times at baileymotorsports.com. Plus the Z06 will last longer with less problems, remember the Z06 has basicaly the same engine has the C6-R who continually spanks everybody at the 24 hours of Lemans. I sure the porcshe is a great car and you it willl have more prestige but if you're going to the track pick the Z06.

Remember their is no replacement for displacement!

The GT3 is ALWAYS faster on the track than the 911 Turbo. It's the same as the Cayman will always be slower than the base 911.

This is Porsche's product structure.

You'll just have to wait and see.

The video also said there is a GT3 RS and GT3 Clubsport package in the works which is even faster.

The only conclusion you can draw at this point is that the Z06 will be faster in a straight line. I don't think any GT3 customer would give a rat's ***.

Edit: at the response above mine.

First off, I love 'Vettes but you aren't giving any respect to the Porsche. Usually for all that extra money, Porsche throws in some bulletproof cooling and braking systems that the 'Vette has a hard time matching in some cases. I would rate reliability as the same.

The 911 and the Corvette have been evolving for many, many and both companies have been wroking hard to make these cars very reliable on the track. The Z06 uses an LS7 which has more in common with the LS1 than the C5R/C6R engines used the LeMans cars.

Now if it was my money, I would pick the Z06. But try to use some factual info next time.

Is all that "tail wagging" necessary to make a P car go fast??? It "looked" impressive but I've never known that to be the fast way around the track.
