Default Power Down Mode

Now that I have a few miles on the car I started be more aggressive.

Went to redline once and had wheel spin once in 3rd gear. At both of these times the car went into Power Down Mode. Traction control and all were on.

What is the purpose of(other than nanny control) Power Down and what can one do to avoid it?

Thanks

nanny off will stop power down but redline produces the same result, so Turn off the nanny and and watch the TACH, you'll be good togo

Thanks Doc.

Now do you have to turn it off each time you get in the car or can you shut it off once and forget it?

Thanks.

I'm betting it is like all the older models and resets itself everytime you turn the car off/on. They used to make a device for the C5's that would allow you to leave it in one fixed position so that you didnt always have to reset it each time.

I dont think they have a C6 model yet but here is their site if you want to check http://www.laptrax.com/

Traction control/Active handling does default to "on" every time the car is started, but two quick taps on the button puts you in competition mode, allowing wheelspin (trac control off), but still correcting understeer/oversteer situations (AH on). This is probably the mode you want to be in on the street if you are driving aggressively. The threshold of intervention of AH is higher than in regular "on" mode, but frankly it is even less intrusive than in the C5's I've had.

Competion mode will shut down traction control .....Be careful as rear wheel spin will produce power induced over steer...... you can loose it
Make sure you are pointed straight when you gas it in the lower gears

Is shutting down the car and restarting it the only way to get out of the power down mode?

No, you can toggle through the various modes all you want.

At the risk of sounding rude, do you have a manual? Don't get me wrong, come here and ask all the questions you want and we'll answer them, but that stuff is in the owner's manual and it sounds like you are fairly new to the Corvette experience, so I'd recommend giving it a read. There's bound to be some stuff you don't think to ask and we don't think to share...

Changing the modes is fairly straight forward with the big round button on the center console.

At first I thought it was an "Ejection Seat" button so I read the manual to make sure how to use it.

This is the third vette. Never needed to play with the modes.

But the power down mode comes when giving the car some aggression.

Giving you less power and its annoying.

So can you change out of the power down mode some other way than restart? Not changing the driving modes.

By the way, did you know that the Z06 only comes in a standard?

I'm also glad you've given me permission to come in and ask questions.

I'm sure he was asking if you had a manual, as in owner's manual, not what kind of tranny you had in the car

Yes, the Z06 comes only with a manual transmission.

The best thing to do for you is to make a habit out of.

Getting in the car
Buckling up
Turning on the car
Pressing the big button in the center console with the picture of the vette making skid marks two times.
In the HUD it will display "Competition Mode".
Enjoy.

So can you change out of the power down mode some other way than restart? Not changing the driving modes.
Yes, press the big button in the center console with the picture of the vette making skid marks. Repeat as needed.

Honestly, read the manual.

Okay let me get this straight if I hit the rev limiter and I go into the power down mode.

I can hit the button on the console and it will reset?

I'm NOT asking how to work the active handling between regular, competition mode or Traction control off.

READING THE MANUAL AND IT DOES NOT COVER THE POWER DOWN, unless this is the power down mode as well.

Honestly, You're not an example.

The button on the console DOES NOT CONTROL the rev limiter, if you mean the rev limiter then use the correct term (I never heard of a "Power Down mode"). The rev limiter will activate around 7100 RPM regardless of what mode you dial in from the button on the center console and continue to limit the RPM as long as you try to rev above 7100 RPM. The manual DOES mention the 7000 RPM red line, pay attention to that and your "power down" will go away.

I understand the rev limiter.

When I hit the rev limit the car went sluggish, less power, sterring got hard and didn't run well. I also did a burn out and this occured. This is what I mean by power down mode or reduced power.

So, I restarted the car and it went back to normal.

Can you use the Traction/active handling button to rest this when that happens.

Reread what I posted above; The T/C/AH button has NOTHING to do with the rev limiter. Until you do an ECM reprogram the rev limiter will ALWAYS come in @ 7100 RPM. The rev limiter is not part of the TC/AH, it's a program in the ECM to keep you from blowing the engine up. Don't rev above 7000 RPM red line and your problem will go away.
