Default If you are even CONSIDERING the Viper vs ZO6, Viper test drive will cure you.

I'm posting this now because I have spoken to a few people lately that are still considering the Viper as an alternative to buying the 06 ZO6.

It you have any Viper envy,
it might be cured by a test drive.

No offense to the Viper crowd intended here,
the Viper IS Bob Lutz's baby and Dodge is fueling the horsepower war for everyone's benefit. =)

Before the C6 arrived, I went to buy a silver 05 Viper and took it for an extended/extreme test drive.
I could go on for a while, but I'll keep it short.

The Viper's torque was GREAT for a stocker!
I was sideways on many 2-3 speed-shifts.
(No I didn't hurt it, I have some driving experience. =)
You can't argue with the overall performance #'s of the Viper.
Unfortunately, there's not much more good I can say about the car. =(

I couldn't wait to get out of the Viper by the end of the drive.

I felt squished in the cabin, and I'm not a big guy.
Getting in and out was not easy.
The heat in the cabin from the drivetrain was RIDICULOUS.
I found the car FELT big, and not as tossable as I'd like.
Every one has an opinion and I find the C5/C6 to be much more comfortable, a better fit, and more fun to drive.

On the other hand, you can't argue with the Viper's performance #'s.
With the new ZO6 available, the only reasons I can see buying the Viper is because it's rare, it's beautiful, and you have the vert option with your 500 horses.
I'd still take a modded C6 vert over a Viper for a convertible 500 horse car.

If the ZO6 gets a no cost targa OPTION, it will be the ONLY sports car to buy unless you need AWD or you can’t afford it.
If the ZO6 gets forced induction with that targa top, it will be the ultimate street car.

To the Viper lover's here:
Keep an eye out for John Self and his 05 Viper on this site.(DJself)
John had/has one of the fastest C5's (1000hp custom Lingenfelter TT) and he has started "playing" with his Viper.

PS
When driving the Viper slowly, or even sitting at a light, people show so much HATE towards you.
I don't know if it's jealousy for your perceived wealth, or if people think you are rubbing the car in their face.

Whatever it is, people kept staring with ugly faces, even when they pulled up next me when I was stopped at a light.
Vans were speeding up on my tail; people were nearly taking off my front bumper/fender trying to pass me.
All this was on the 1 mile drive from the dealer to the highway,
BEFORE I even got on the throttle.

I never had one thing of hatred aimed at me in my Viper, only thumbs up and waves, smiles, etc......all of which NEVER have happened in my Z06. That sounds like a bunch of crap to me. Try turning the A/C on in the car, the heat goes away, Ive never been hot in either of my 2 SRTs. The Viper is a drivers car, doesnt sound like you can handle it, the civilized Z06 is a much easier car to drive, so it the C6, thus you see women driving those, and as it appears, we'll see you driving one soon also.

Gotta love "JimmyCrapCorn". Cause now I really don't believe his lame story that he/she/it owns a Z.

Thumbs up and stares everywhere I go in the Z.

Are all Viper owners this condescending? No wonder everyone was giving you ugly looks(427 C6)...if Viper owners have this kind of attitude towards their car and everyone elses.

Didn't mean to get anyone upset.
If you love your rare and beautiful Viper,
I don't blame you.

The temp was in the high 70's and I tried the top up/down and the air on/off.
Either way, I was uncomfortable with the heat; especially when getting in and out after the car had been running.

I'm glad the public response you recieve is better that what I experienced.
Maybe all the hate I was getting was a fluke.
But I assure you, I was driving with the flow of traffic, I stayed in my land, and I did nothing to **** anyone off.
I was surprised, I expected a lot of smiles and waves.

As far as not being able to handle the Viper,
I drive a 05 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 almost everyday and I think it takes a hell of a lot more skill to pilot that thing.
I drove my 9 second supercharged Mustang 5.0 daily and handled it quite well on snowy, wet, northeast roads with rear drums, no ABS, no traction control, and a suspension that was stolen from a horse carriage with no problems or complaints. I think I can handle the Viper.

I only got "soft" and started wanting comfort in my cars once I hit 30.

I see you're moving right on ahead with the "Trying To Make Friends Campaign".

This is only my experience, but I've had a mix of both positive and negative response driving the Z. I would say mostly positive.
I do get people in all makes and style of vehicle acting kinda wacky.
You pass someone in a SUV or a sedan, they barely notice. But pass (I'm not talking blowing past- just your average pass) in the Z, and they get all worked up and step on it.
Yes, I know in some cases it's because they may want to get a better look, but you can tell those apart from the ones that have no apparent interest in the car and just want to believe that they can keep up.
I don't worry about it too much either way. I didn't buy this car for anyone elses acceptance. I have such a blast when I'm driving this car that I probably look like "Bob" in the Cialis commercial, only w/o the raging hard-on.

No one here can rightfully say he, or anyone else on the forum for that matter, is a bad guy. As no one here really knows him.
However, the # of negative responses, and there have been many, that spew from his keyboard are rarely warranted.
No one came on here slamming the Viper. 427 C6's post was not a slam on the Viper and I don't believe was meant to instigate an arguement in any way.
If you're correct, and Mr. Jimmy really isn't a bad guy, maybe he'll realize he could stand to take your advice himself and lighten up a bit.

Where was I negative? Its been my experience that people hate the Z06 when Im driving it, cut it off, throw things at in, Ive pulled over and gotten into it with people...all because they have some bad attitude towards vettes, this is 03 by the way, not the new one. The Viper is the total and complete opposite, all positive. Though I did catch some teenager stealing the valve caps off it once. Didnt sound like a credible story of the viper experience, maybe it was true, but thats not the norm. The 2 cars, the viper and the new Z are worlds different, but both make the owners happy. And how many women drive Vipers around? many many many drive C6's. negative as that sounds, its true, and its because those cars are user friendly, the viper isnt. I was thinking about picking up the new Z, thats why I stopped by these boards, see what the owners say, my 03 z06 is box stock and I dont care about modding it.

You either live in the tundra or have not driven an SRT. I can tell you here in Arizona you literally can't drive the car for 3-4 months in the daytime during the summer...unless armpit sweat rings don't bother you. For clarification, that is with the A/C on and I don't have overactive sweat glands nor a problem with anti-perspirant.

I've seen women driving vipers also, I asked them why would you drive a slow car when u could be driving the faster yet more civilized z06, and they just say that they are working on their tan

This is such a load of bull****, it's hilarious. Only a moron would decry one persons story about their driving experience as not the norm, and subsequently go on to say "this is the norm". In my experience, typically the norm when driving a car, involves using pedals, some type of gear shift, and a steering wheel

P.S saying someone "can't handle it" because your feelings are hurt they aren't jerking off on the car you happen own's logo is what I call "negative". Someone definitely can't handle something...

I'm sure the Z06 is fine, however with no convertible, I would never own one. I have driven my '69 Corvette over 140,000 miles including trips to both coasts and even with its factory side pipes and no AC it has always been a pleasure to drive.

The Viper is cooler in cabin temperature and more comfortable than the very acceptable '69. When I drove a new Corvette it was a great ride, but not radically more fun than my '69.

I drive my Viper daily and love the thrill of it.
