Default Did anybody see this? C6 Z06 actual 1/4 times?

http://www.z06vette.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79875

Dont know if the princess sweet talking Dave Hill last night had anything to do with it or not but a black C6 Z showed up at the strip today at the Birthday Bash. First of all the conditions were terrible. Temp was in the upper 40s, a stiff wind and several periods of light rain. So the first run was mid 13's and he lost to a C5 coupe with a supercharger. Next run was not much better. He finally got a 12.5 before we left. I do not know if he ran anymore after we left or not. Also I did not know the gentleman driving but his reaction times were not the greatest. I have some video if anyone wants to host it. One last note, I did not like the exhaust note at wide open throttle. A bit tinny sounding to me.

Then someone else that was there chimes in later and notes

best run was a 12.06 best trap 123.9

I thought this was interesting. Nice mph, but it's hard to judge what happens in cold weather and what could have either been helpful/hurtful wind...Either way, I think it's clear that time will show this to be faster than the SRT-10, if a guy that's running 13's in a 500hp car can get it to hit 12.0X@124...

Cool.

I wonder though if track conditions are ever good. Seems all I ever hear are track was bad, it was humid etc. etc. Rarely hear stories otherwise...oh well.

I'm sure the Z will be fast as heck but as always there'll be alot of driver varation. That's alot of power to get down.

Hehe. There's a certain (unspecified) tuner who seems to mandate it's customers make such stipulations around here that always make me laugh. "There was no traction available", and immediately follow up with 1.41 60ts... I wish...

Temps would seem good for the C6 Z run, but the rain and wind could be detrimental.

I woud say the 15-20mph head wind might have played a factor too. It was very windy. That car was fast! I am sure it will get faster after the driver gets used to it.

I predicted 11.7 at 124 for a bone stock 2006 Z a while ago on the forums.
I would like to believe a forum driver will break into the 10's with better tires and a few minor mods.

There was recently a thread about track conditions being so good (sticky) that they kept bogging their motor no matter how they launched, and how everyone else was breaking parts, so they decided to go home.

I probably should have posted a price or emblem related thread...because obviously few people care about the actual performance.

That would be stellar. Even at 124mph, this thing will be a beast on the street. With that kind of mile-an-hour, its going to be a low-11 second car easy with a good driver and a more drag-oriented setup.

Was there, sounds right. Have some QuickTime vids of it running (not very 'good' vids but hey...) but they're too big for me to host (15mb total) If you want em, e-mail me and I'll send em to ya on Tuesday.

Yeah, we saw it run the 12.06. The guy was trying all kinds of different launches just trying to get the car to hook up. He was running back-to-back runs, no cool down or anything. His wife even make a 12.9 pass in the thing! Word we heard was that he was a Chevy engineer and that the car will eventually be crushed!

No doubt a good set of stickies and a professional driver would put it well into the 11's...

123.9 was his best run when we were there. I agree that everyone always wants to pull the "bad conditions" excuse but Sat it was really tough out there. I go to the strip at least a couple of times a year for the last 8 to 10 years and I have never felt a track as slick as this one was. The headwind was very stiff. I have a bone stock 04Z and I could not go full throttle in 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd on most of my runs. I was 2 to 3 MPH down from my normal trap speeds. I ran right behind him on 5 straight passes and my friend who was videoing said that his car seemed twice as loud as mine under WOT. I thought it looked awesome and sounded very good.

I have 3 videos of this car - None of the mph's were above 119 mph (the "darling run" must have been after 4 p.m.)

Talk of wind and rain is being exaggerated - a couple drops of drizzle was it - more water was being brought onto the track by folks driving through the water box and the wind was a strong breeze, if that.

there was a lot of wind though, in the morning...

The driver of the car was a GM Engineer - Hope this hleps

If he did hit 124mph or better at beech bend then WATCH OUT. That track sucks! 118s is what the best C5 Z06s are getting in stock form with the high 11 second times, so this thing will be an animal.

I'm not impressed. Even with a poor driver, you gotta figure the MPH#s should be there. That was clearly bad advertisement for the car. Well, if nothing else, we know how much power its worth now if you own the car near that drag strip.

It sounds pretty good to me! What kind of mph were other cars doing that day? I know everyone wants the car to go 130 mph in the quarter
but hey Vipers are usually running around 120 so be happy
