Have you been reading the threads and what GM says about the AL frame and a vert? GM said just to make the car a targa they would have to add 44lbs of bracing, I wonder what would have to be added if the roll hoop was gone too!? The C5 Z06 was extra stiff not because of the fixed roof, but because the frame stiffeners from the vert were added, and that was a steel frame car. Just FYI.

The C5 did have extra bracing for the vert, those braces were added to the C5 Z06. The mag frame that is bolted in place weighs a lot less than 44lbs, and there is no telling, if at all, how much bracing would be need if the hoop were gone. Probably some type of hoop would still have to exist, plus the bracing. Do a search, there are lots of threads discussing this.

This piece provides no structural support.

the car is NOT designed to have the roof cut off
Think back to the muscle car days with unibody cars and torque monster motors.. you snap the clutch just right and you'll have a twisted frame.
