MSRP pricing on the Z06 might not matter for a while....
Paid a visit to my dealer today to see if he was taking orders for the Z06. He declared "not really" but the first two were spoken for at $100K each!! To this group, GM pricing won't matter, it appears!!

74k at their lot. ITs going to be tough to get a good deal on this car. I can see it now.

Well ... I'm #5 on my dealer's list. I fully intend on buying this car. HOWEVER ... I will not pay over MSRP. I tend to think there will be NO price markup as a general rule. Bad for business. GM needs those new C6s on the road ... reguardless of trim. I also figure the price will come in around 65-70K. Don't hold your breath for less than 65. Base may be 64.5 but then isn't that 65 anyway

I got my GTO for $21,500. So are the people who bought for MSRP idiots?
Someone with $1 Million cash isn't dumber in paying $80,000 for the car than someone with $60,000 cash paying $60,000 for it. Inherited or not. The exclusivity of being one of the first may be worth it to them. Is the guy who bought a ZL1 for a huge amount stupid?

I'm number 2 at my dealer for the new 997 Turbo ( 7th one ) next year . My position is held with no deposit and in writing . It will be sold to me with a discount to MSRP. Dealer appreciates my repeat business ( they sell Porsche and MBZ ) and numerous referrals for their two brands . The Porsche sales, service and parts guys have been around a long time. Shop foreman is a cool guy , so smart - big car nut with a weekend Porsche mod business on the side . Service is by appointment time and have own assigned advisor . Always get a Boxster or Boxster S service loaner and if those aren't avail, a MBZ ML320 or C320 .
OTOH, I bought my '97 C5 Z51 first month of production in March '97 for MSRP, when all other Bay Area dealers were asking $10-25K over MSRP, but I found a very small dealer who didn't jump on the gouge bandwagon until after I got mine . I'm sure they will be the same ones pulling the $100K stunts , treating their buyers with butt kicking condescension the moment they drive off the lot in their C6 " 300Z4 - or whatever it's called " , not caring if they ever see them again, because they are really truck sellers. My C5 dealer was the largest C5 seller in N Calif, but their C5 mechanic was frequently working on the trucks and superficially supervising the others working on my car . Checking in for service required getting there by 6: 30 am ( 1 hour before opening ) before the hundred trucks and SUVs show up - first come, first served ( moooooo...) with no service rental provided- had to drop off another car in front night before to get home and then pick it up again the night following service .
Two ways of spending $100K for two " premium tier sports cars " as GM speak would put it. I hope the Corvette " team " is reading this because " premium " goods buyers they are hoping to conquest are pretty demanding and saavy not only about cars but about how they should be treated .

You'd be an dumb idiotic moron with to much money to pay that much over msrp. I'll just wait to buy theirs when they trade it in on the next "IT" vehicle. But they"ll want top dollar when you can buy a new one at or below sticker.

For those of us with a more "modest" income, wait a year or at least till you find a dealer with multiple Z06s sitting on the lot. I bought a new Z06 late in 2003. One of the reasons I got a great deal on it (45K) was they had at least eight sitting on the lot. Many duplicate colors. Not to mention the first year isn't the greatest anyway so don't be in too much of a hurry unless you have the cash to burn. IMHO if you want it now and have the money for it then it's worth whatever you feel comfortable paying.
