More Competition for the C6
Of course with the new Z06 out at a similar price to a 911, the only car the 911 can compare itself to with any hope of succes is the non-Z06. That said, it looks like Porsche is getting ready to release a new Carrera C4S.

Now in the past, I really wasn't crazy about the 911 because (IMOHO) it's interior was very lacking for a car of it's price. I have to say they made some improvements, but until Porsche can add a solid 50hp across the board to all it's offerings, I really think they're just going to be sucking tail pipe fumes as the competition blows them away.

I think the Porsche is most unattractive. Plus I like American fiberglas/composite so if the Vette and the Porsche both cost the same I wouldn't even bother to test drive the Porsche. Besides my new C6 is in at Maxie Price and I will be picking it up in a week.

As for my opinion on the 911, I think Porsche has been too much a slave to heritage and this "New" 911 no more impassions me to buy one than the "old" one did ..... which looks a lot like the new one anyway...... Anyhow, I think they need to dump the Boxster 6-cylinder and go with a Boxster 8-cylinder or something to get the power competitive. This car simply will not keep up with the competition in the years to come.
400hp C6 and 500hp Z06 (2005/2006)
400hp V8 M3 (2007)
450hp Skyline GT-R (2007)
450hp Audi RS4 (2007)
400-500hp Mustang Cobra (2006?)
500hp Viper (2003+)

I know porcshe are much more expensive but somehow they have something C6 doesnt...C6 is all out performance and all but porsche will always remain porsche and as for american build..man I wouldnt buy anything american, just that C6 is too damn gorgeous for me to ignore it just cuz its american, some nice vehicle are made american but still i would stay away from 95% of them..
Now lets just see how the Firepower turns out..would love to have that too along with a nice Z06..oohhh who am I kidding..wouldnt be able to afford either..so will be sticking to the C6..

I've posted this before but what the heck -
When I told my friends I was getting a Corvette they said -
"Get a Porsche". I said - "It's not a Corvette!"
Then they said -
"Get a Viper". I said - "It's NOT a Corvette!"
Then they said -
"Get a Mercedes". I said - "IT'S NOT A CORVETTE!"
.
.
.
Get it???!

Unforturnately, Porsche has out-priced itself against the C6.
The cost of the Porsche has placed it into the near-exotic class.
Now here is the interesting part, the C6 matches the Porsche in every catagory of performance, for a much lesser price.
Sure, we can go into the whole interior differences, but when you boil it down to performance, it is hard to ignore the C6's value.

My .02 cents... My dream car was a Porsche 911 and I did test drive 2002 911 C2 and C4S and both are impressive cars, but they have very tight interiors.
The Corvette on the other hand, which I was not even considering, but I did owe it to myself to be educated when I made my final decision. I got to test drive a 2003 Z06 and WOW! Car was amazing and crazy fast. It was the only car I can get in and out without any issues and I fit in perfectly.
So when the C6 came out I was ready to buy and I have not looked back. This car is amazing and with the Z51 package that much more of a car for the price, which I am sure everyone can agree on.
Side Note: I test drove other cars as well SMG M3, Masareti (paddle shifters), Cadillac CTS-V and Audi S4. All are nice cars, but not in the same league as a Corvette!

PS I hated the SMG
PPS I considered the Porsche 911, but it's the performance clone of the M3, and the M3 has a better interior, more useable, and lacks the "look at me!" factor which I'm none too keen on anyways.
PPPS I've driven GM V8's since the REagan administration it was a nice change trying out the BMW for a while, but I'll likely get another GM in the future again.

i like the porsche. (like my c6 better though). Think it would be fun to own one of those ****-mobiles one day. It seems everything is so different on them (the sheer design) that it would be a tragedy to miss out on the experience. German engineering is laudable and we have some things to learn from it. American first is my philosophy, so I made sure my first car was a corvette
