Stay off the Viper forum, and you won't read the trash talk. There is just as much trash talk on the corvetteforum about the Viper.
Who the $#@# cares what anyone says anyway????
Some people have way too much time on their hands..

lol i dont know man...i love my C6 z51, but am I the only guy that wouldn't mind having a viper too? I mean, i think they're hot. All the gens... A few weeks before getting the c6 we looked at a used Viper for 56 (about what i paid for my C6) and the only reason i didn't get it is because i have a long commute and knew the C6 was going to be better for it. I am secure enough in the hardcore-awesome-ness of my C6 to say, yes, I'd love to have a Viper.

I don't regret the decision one bit. For my purposes, the Corvette is much the better choice. I still wouldn't mind having a Viper in the garage for some weekend fun, but an 06 Z06 would do too. Unfortunately, rational financial considerations rule that out. One supercar is enough of a dent in the wallet, and the one I chose suits me just fine.

They're quite a few Vipers in my nieghbor hood.
The local High School Cheerleaders drive them.
Ya see, what happened was that Daddy was sick and tired of driving an ugly slow car. So he bought a new Zo6 and gave Princess the Viper, because he knew she couldn't get hurt driving it.
Plus he didn't want her to ding up the Corvette, and get it all "girly" smelling.

here's a compare of the coupes from both.
http://autos.msn.com/research/compar...99485&v=t99712
both are 05's and the following info in found in Sports & GT Cars 2005 29 Best Performance Cars in America (Road & Track).
Viper: srt-10
price- $80 - $85 k
weight - 3410 lbs
hp - 500 @5600
trq - 525 @ 4200
trans - 6 speed manual
0 -> 60 - 4.1 sec (motor trend says 3.9)
1/4 mile - 12.2 sec @ 119.6
skidpad - 1.04g
weight/power, lb/hp - 6.8
Vette: c6 z51
price - $43 - $54 k
weight - 3300 lbs
hp - 400 @ 6000
trq - 400 @ 4400
trans - 6 speed manual or 4 speed auto
0 -> 60 - 4.5 sec
1/4 mile - 12.9 @ 112.3
skidpad - 0.95 g
Vette: Z06
price - $75k est.
weight - 3150 lbs
hp - 500 @ 6200
trq - 475 @ 4800
trans - 6 speed manual
0 -> 60 - 3.7 sec (est)
1/4 mile - mid to low 11's (unofficial)
weight/power, lb/hp - 6.3
so is .4 sec in 0 to 60 and .7 sec and 7.3 mph in the 1/4 worth 31 k, especially when it's almost close enough that the driver could make the difference for the base c6 ? or for $10k less the Zo6 bests the Viper and has more comfort. hhmm...
according to msn it looks like the vette has more creature comforts for the money.

the vipers only advantage that it used to have was massive horsepower... with the z06 500 hp, thats gone... i used to run Porsches with a good friend that worked for dodge, and on occasion, the viper racing team.. he told me that 1 out of every 8 vipers NEVER MADE IT HOME from the vehicle lot. a lot of the vipers performance and power isnt regulated, and in all reality, poorly designed. thats from a porsche owner, i have never owned a corvette, even tho i now have a c6 on order.
my .02 cents, from being a neutral party, i think the c5 is better designed then the viper, so quite obviously, the c6 is a step ahead as well. viper is an AMAZING looking ride, but if a guy that used to race the vehicles and worked for dodge tells me they are a piece, im inclined to believe.
anyway, my .02 cents. take it for what its worth.

I like the Viper and it's an awesome machine but may be a bit much for the average driver. No electronics to bail you out if you get in over your head. I realize it's a sports car but many want to GPS navigation, traction & stability controls. If you don't want the intervention you have the option to turn them off. Dodge may also want to loose a little weight to enhance the power to weight ratio.
Both are awesome yet the Z06 has been updated and raises the bar.
