The numbers come out every month in Automotive News and other sources. You need to look at the inventory number--this is measured by taking the inventory against recent sales, yielding a x-day supply. Standard in the industry is a 60 day supply. If the Vette number is below that, it's selling better than normal.
For comparison, the Mini Cooper is running around an 8 day supply and the Pontiac GTO has been around 200 days(!).

One of my favorite indicators of sales was the fact that Forum dealer Ken Fichtner had sold his entire allocation of 2005s before the plant even stopped making the 2004s.
It isn't often a dealer sells out the whole year upfront. I'd say demand is fairly strong.

I've seen post where people got their C6s for $500 below MSRP. That did not happen anywhere close to this early with the C5. Definitely not the hot ticket that the C5 was. The internet and a poorer economy are also contributing factors. And those headlights probably aren't helping either.

What should we be comparing, total units sold or percentage of available stock sold?

When C5 first came out there was up to a THREE MONTH wait just to get an ordering slot. FORGET dealer lot (stock) cars they were usually sold before they ever hit the ground and most Dealers were selling them over sticker. It was a good 3 model years before things settled to normal and Dealers had some lot inventory to sell. My Dealer has had 3 yes 3 C6s sitting on the lot for a good 2 weeks now and one even used already. Nope the C6 is not at all at the same demand level as C5 was when new. You can walk in today and order one right now with no waiting unless your order has a dual top or Nav system.

There is another factor to consider. Not everyone is a Vette fanatic like most of us. The 97's once seen on the road brought more people into the buyers market after seeing them on the road.
We will see if the C6 attracts the correct amount of attention from the non Vette customer that wants to be a new future buyer.

Very true.... not many people have been waiting on edge like we were for the c6 intro so give it some time. Damn it's only been what? A month and change? Many of the Vette guys just paid alot for their 03-04 C5s, and have taken a huge hit. Magazine press saying its a "c5 1/2" hasnt helped much eigther.

According to Automotive news, about 3600 C6s had been built by 9/25/04. I am not sure, but I think C5 initial production ramped up much more slowly.
I wouldn't expect C6s to be quite as hard to get or a expensive to buy as the initial C5s were, for several reasons. C5 followed a very long run of C4s, C5 was a more radical departure than the C6 is, and the world of car marketing has changed. When the C5 came out you only saw rebates on slow sellers. Now the domestics give rebates on just about everything and then add 0% financing. We've become accustomed to discounts and therefore I think fewer people are willing to pay over sticker than before.
