Default 1/4 Mile Times for my new ride -->

Hey all-

I ran my C6 a couple a days ago at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green. It was about 85 degrees & very, very humid. The car ran a best ET of 13.0 @ 109 mph - I had a bundle of 13.1 runs to back it up. I also found out something that really upset me - I had the traction control turned off, so I thought. You actually need to tap the traction control TWICE in order for it to be turned off 100% - live & learn! The car kept bogging down off the line - now I know! The Carlisle Callaway Corvette project car will be running in bone stock attire one more time for baseline performance tests on Wed. of this week. I'll keep you posted, the car has a 12 sec. run in it with ease. I did run a stock Z06 and the C6 drove by it.

Overall the car handles well, the navigation is superb! I'm very happy with the overall car! I'm up in CT right now & left the car in Callaway's hands - look for some upgrades to be done soon - I hope to see some of you in Effingham in a couple of weeks. The Project car will be there with me

That's good to know about the TC. Cartek ran their C6 this weekend and was having the same problem with bogging and stuff.

How many miles are on it? Mine was sluggish at first but now there is no hesitation!!! It took three warming and cooling periods and 120 miles to get it going but it wants to break loose in 1st and 2nd now much like a Z06.

There were about 900 miles on the car when I ran it - I launched the car a few times after I learned about hitting the traction control button twice & it worked like a charm. Again, Callaway Cars will be running the car on Wed.

The Z06 owners arent going to like the fact that GM made the new C6 so capable as to be able drive by it, so easily. Good runs!!! This car should easily be trapping 120's.

Why would anyone buy a z06 now? Makes that purchase seem questionable, since this car is so much faster. Awesome!

Lance - saw you run - me and my friend (probably others) asked you about the bog & if you had traction control off (you said you did). But that was obviously before you knew this little trick, eh? Didn't stick around long enough to see the GOOD run - glad to hear you got it worked out - I was worried for a while or wondering about your skills ;-)

The driver makes all the difference in the world... a C5 Z06 is still faster (15 or so more rwhp, and less weight), since stock Z06's tend to run low to mid 12's and occasionally even break into the 11's (bone stock!) like this one:

Once I finished up with the drags I went back to NCM & spoke to one of the GM engineers & he asked if I held down the traction control button for 5 seconds because there are 3 modes - so I immediately laughed & knew what was wrong at the strip.

I checked out the owners manual & read it - wish I did that before running the car all day. Oh well, better late then never. All you have to do is push the button twice & it goes into competition mode - or drivers mode (something like that) & that shuts it down completely.

Lesson learned!

You are 100% correct - most of it is the driver. When I raced the Z06 this past weekend it was on even playing ground (weather & etc.) - I was baby shifting my car and the power of the C6 was stronger then that car because he got me out of the hole.

I'll update our results on Thursday - they should be much better now that we know how to shut down the traction control...

Lance
per my understanding from the Class we had to go to the threee modes are: 1.) Traction Control On (Active Handling On) 2.) Traction Control Off (Active Handling to Competition Mode) 3.) Traction Control Off (Active Handling Off) Tapping the button switches between the first two modes and you have to hold the button for 5 seconds to reach the last mode. Does this fit with what you are hearing?

The latest dyno's I've seen on the C6 has been in the mid 340 range. Considering Z06's dyno an average of 10-15rwhp more and are in the area of 150-200lbs lighter I don't see how the c6 is faster than a z06. My z06 weighed 3040 on a near empty tank.

Motorweek did a review on the C6 and found it to go 13.1@109 about the same as what you got. THats a far cry from the 12.4-12.6@115-116 that z06's usualy get.

Yeah, the C6 guys are still kidding themselves...

When a C6 runs 0-60 in 3.9 - 4.2 and 1/4 mile in 12.4 or lower then
they can say it's as fast as a stock C5 Z06. No one's done it yet; not
even GM! And, it probably won't ever be done because as stated
above the C6 puts out less RWHP and weighs more than a stock C5
Z06. It's still a nice car though; I like the C6s very much. However, I
have to have 500 HP (or close) so I'm waiting on the C6 Z06!

Power to weight ratio folks.

The C5 Z06 is a faster car. Not by much, but it's faster.
