I'm looking for a reference to the 12.8 e.t. in a stock C6.
Thanks,

So the g-tech will measure the *true* 1/4 ET which will always be a little faster than the track measured time.
However, in my experience, G-Tech's and the like tend to report better (faster) e.t.'s than are typically recorded at a real dragstrip.

Thanks Lance,
That will go on my files as the best time for a C6 so far. I sure would like to have seen 12.7's or better. I was figuring with GM calling it 12.7 that we would see some good drivers coming in at 12.5-12.6. Looks like GM is about 0.2 faster than the rest of us right now...
P.S. Here is another timeslip to back it up the ~12.9 e.t.s.

I watched Cartek's C6 make many passes at the last Corvette Challenge with a very good driver. On that day the C6 was not nearly as quick or as fast as a stock Z06.

Maybe GM used slicks?
Thanks for sharing the link...

There all fast. I'm just glad that I'm waiting for the real one. My 2nd production year C6 Zo6. In the mean time, I'll enjoy my nearly new Zo6 I bought two days ago. Some minor mods to come soon. May the best driver win. Race ya for a set of tires?

1. I am not made of money. I have a decent income and can afford a new Corvette from time to time.
2. Power and handling are extremely important to me. I drive my cars aggressively and enjoy doing so.
3. I am very concerned about the pricing of the 2006 Z06 from the threads here and on other Corvette boards. If it is above $60k, I'm starting to get priced out. I could afford it, but it is just not the best use of my money anymore.
4. I am in a unique situation. I have pulled some strings and tugged at a friendship and may have the opportunity to get a C6 Z51 at a VERY nice price. Note: If that weren't the case, oddly enough, I wouldn't be in this quandry. I'd just buy a 2004 Z06 and sit back and watch the show and see what 2006 brings us.
5. I did #4 based on the early reports of the Z51 C6. 400hp and the same transmission as the Z06 and it seemed to me that there shouldn't have been more that 0.1-0.2 difference in 1/4 mile times. Plus, with the torque kicking in lower - by my thinking - the car might even have FELT faster than a Z06. That is starting not to be the case at all.
I have no idea why, but the C6 Z51 is not coming in anywhere near my expectations for performance. I really thought it would be very close to the Z06. The RWHP isn't far off. Makes me wonder what they are doing with the computer...
So, my point in entering these discussions is because I am sweating it out right now, with a Z51 C6 on the way that I may not want if it is significantly slower than the Z06 I have now. And the new Z06 may be priced in to Supercar territory. I would have already bought a used Viper if I wanted to spend $65-$70k on a car. I don't.
I wanted to see some 12.6-12.7 e.t.s in the C6 Z51 and I would have been pleased. So far, we're not seeing that.

Both Car and Driver and Motor Trend got 12.7.

C&D and MT will happily parrot GM's numbers without ever getting to a track. In spite of being nationally published and widely read magazines, they don't seem to have the budget for a real test facility (i.e. private drag strip). They also seem to have a huge problem getting cars to an actual drag strip. Apparently even though they are "car guys" they don't have time for the track. Finally, they have no problem with putting accelerometer (think G-Tech) numbers up as if they are actual track times without even footnoting it, or making the reader aware.

An experiment to try:
Put stock Z06 wheels and tires on a Z51-C6 and test again (if no clearance/offset issues). Should now have the same gear ratio as the Z06, and the lighter wheel+tire package will also help with acceleration. Or swap wheels+tires with Z06 and see how much the Z06 slows down (or perform both tests).
I suspect that the larger wheel+tire diameter (3.33 AOT 3.42 comparative ratio?) and extra wheel+tire weight (19" vs 18", runflats vs. very light F1's) may account for the slower 1/4 mile times (beyond the extra weight of the C6 and slight HP difference).
