Default Back Seats and the C6 Purchase

I have been going back and forth between a used 996 (base carrera 2001) and a new C6. I love the C6 and the input from the group, the only advantage of the 996, as I am seeing it, is the back seat for the baby in the event you want to use the sports car in stead of my wifes XC90. However, I like the C6 more and more after all of the input on my questions. Thanks for the help.

BTW, In 1997 I bought a 1996 anniversary edition silver vette that was stolen in 9 days, perhaps I am finally excited about replacing something I never had an opportunity to use.

Check out a used C4S cab too, or coupe. Turbo body and close to 911 price. The handling is amazing too. I test drove a brand new one 2 weeks ago. Very close to buying it, but I really dont want an 04. I agree, the back seats are a very big plus. I love the button that allows you to adjust the exhaust note, very It was a 6spd and I think right along the lines of C5 performance. Handling probably would edge out a vette though because of the 295s in the back, 245s in front, and all wheel drive. Again, check one out. The amount of looks I got on the test drive was amazing. I really dont like the looks of the base 911 though. There's just something about the turbo body with wider rear end. I'd say test drive the C6 and 996 on the same day to get a good comparison. If you want raw torque, you don't want porsche. Porsche is very quick though. JMO

If you got the baby in the back seat, you're not going to be having much fun in the Porsche anyway. Plus kids will get the seats dirty, throw up, etc....I have two of them. but

My two young girls love riding in the back seat , esp on cloverleaf on ramps. They experience 0-60 in less than 4 seconds from time to time also! We take weekend trips to the beach , etc.

If this is important to you then why are you considering a 2 seater? Me personally, I could have fun driving "fast" with my kids in my 330i and it will still be plenty thrilling for them, while also being safe for them.

The Vette would be mine all mine.

You might be able to get an infant seat in there but not a child seat rear facing. Get a Vette...leave Mom at home.

They are jaded kids now. No turning back to " Danny the Dragon " at Happy Hollow Park after riding the " Big Dipper " at Santa Cruz 's Boardwalk. Most of the time , the Turbo IS all mine. Nice to have the option which would make it hard to return to a Vette like a " Blue Devil " C6 !

Don't forget the 2004 GTO has an LS-1 motor in it and lots of back seat space

you could wait a litte bit for the 500HP BMW M5. Back seats will fit adults too.

Hwne my son was in an infant carrier we would take my TA Firehawk all over the place. We even went from upsate NY to Virginia on vacation because the AC in her mini van died and the new van I had on order was not due for 2 more months. The problem is when they get bigger. He's 3 now and my wife can't sit in the front seat with him in a car seat behind him so I am the sole person in the car now. He hates the car because he can't see out of the back seat (low seating position, no windows).

Buy the Vette and have another car for hauling kids. (I have not orderedmy Vette yet).

My Stable includes a Honda Odyssey, Saab 9 3 (company car) and a Trans Am Firehawk.

Besides you can never have enough cars

Decide if you want to take the baby and your wife in the porsche or just the baby...?

I'd suggest the Porsche 911.....

This way when your traveling as a family you could be having a good time behind the wheel.

I guess it just depends how often you will be traveling together as a family or just with you and the baby?

The vettes fine to use with the baby, just remember to turn off the passenger side airbag..

The C4S is a fine car no doubt, but let's not forget about price. You can get a well equipped C6 for around $50K. I went to KBB for 911 C4 coupe pricing, and I had to go all the way back to a '99 modestly equipped 50K mile car to get down to the $48K range. To me the choice is easy, but I guess some buyers just have to have a Porsche. By the way if you want that 911 certified, you would have to add around another $2K to the price which brings it to the $50K C6 price.

There is a good choice.

None of us can help you decide if you need back seat or not. I think Porsche makes fine cars, but unless I had serious money to spend, I'd think M3 first, CTS-V second. If you can afford it and will take an automatic, the E55 would be killer.

Good luck and enjoy whatever you get.
