Default Who's Getting a Power Top on the convert? Is it Worth $2000?????

OK. For those of you that have had C5 Convertibles, is the possibility of getting a power top necessary? Would you want it? Are you getting it? Is it worth $2000? What's your opinion?

My concern is how much weight does it add? I've had convertible Corvettes for over 15 years (damn, I must be getting old) and putting up the top myself has never been a problem. I guess that means I probably don't need it, so I wouldn't buy it.

I will probably be getting a coupe, but if I were to get a convertible, I would get the power top.

That's not a whole lot of weight, I might change my mind on that when the time comes. Cost is $142 per pound.

C5 convert top works very smoothly. I've had no trouble with mine and have gotten very good at stowing/ deploying it quickly. ( Although, you should have seen me the first few times! )
I'm always paranoid that if I leave her parked with top down, some bird will poop in the interior so I get a lot of practice with operating it.

My concern with the power top would be , how long does it take to operate? I've not seen any figures in the marketing materials.
And $2000 would buy a few cool mods...

This was a big reason for me to order a C6 and my only complaint about my '00 C5. It would be a pain to have to get out and manually put the top up once in awhile (especially if I was doing a bunch of errands). Plus I lost count of how many times someone said "You spend all that money and still have to put the top up yourself". The power top completes the car for me.

It takes about 15 seconds to put up/down the top on a C5 vert. To me, it's definitely not worth the $2000 price. It's also just another piece that's possible to have problems, especially since it's the first year for the power top.

I plan on ordering a vert with a power top although I think the price is high either to discourage people from ordering it, or because GM feels if you want it you will pay. Power tops have been around a long time, I doubt R&D costs over the manual roof are more than adaptation

I've had three Vette verts. Some tops are easier to put up and down than others. Still none of them has ever been so much of a problem I felt like I had to have a power top.

But, someday when I buy a C6 vert, I'll probably get the power top. It's

One other factor to consider is how much room the power equipment takes up in the trunk. I test drove a LXR yesterday...nice interior but too crampe...and their very little room in the trunk with the top down (couldn't get a full set of golf clubs in), I realize the space needed for the hard vs. soft top, but there is still going to be a lot of machinery to make it work. If the C6 is as easy as my C5, a manual top seems best...at least to me.

If you want to hit a button and stay in the car then get the top if you can afford it, I am tired of getting in an out of the car everytime, and most important is I have the money,so I will be

I have an 00 vert. Its a snap to get the top up and down and obviously no mechanicals. I'm getting a coupe C6, but would probably pass on the power top at this time. Of course you can look really cool at a busy intersection as that power top goes thru its motions as you wait for the light to change!!!

Maybe if it were a hardtop similar to the XLR.

If I was getting a vert....I would get the power top. I mean, what the heck, most like all the other gadgets the vette offers and that is what this car is about. Having it all!!!

I would get the power top. Surely $2,000 isn't going to break your bank if you are buying a $60,000 car.
