Default 911 GT3 vrs. C6 Z51

Not much is happenin so I thought I'd throw in another poll. How do you guys think a C6 Z51 would do up against the GT3? Feel free to add your own appropriate poll choices, I thought this would be a good comparison.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... I love the Porsche 996's! I was ready to buy a used one, but I couldn't turn down the value and the looks of the C6.

Performance match up would be very close. Both are / will be major performance cars. Since the Porsche will cost almost twice that of a Z51 C6 , there isn't much doubt as to the better value. I think it is a major credit to GM that this much performance (truly world class) can be purchased for so little.

Value is also in the eye of the beholder in my opinion.

The GT3 is a no compromize track/race car, much like the Ferrari Challange Stradale. It is not intended to be driven confortably to and from your home to the office to the store and back. The C6 will be a much more user friendly car with 9/10th the performance at 1/2 the price. There's no car that compares to the C5, C6 vette for price vs, performance.

I'd have to say the Evo and STi are actually best value for performance. But for overall value for daily driver, power, handling, and looks then yea probably the Z06. I don't say C5 cuz it's not a huge leap in performance over the above mentioned. The C6 is another story. That will definitely be king!

The GT3 should have the edge mainly because is about 200 pounds lighter than the C6 Z51......

Yes, but the GT3 has only 375 or 380hp. The torque in the vette makes up for the weight difference.

Yeah it should be intresting.....Straight line performance should be close between these two....

Probably the extra weight should hurt more the C6 in corners but cornering grip levels should be close also.....

Of the two definetly the C6 should be the easier car to drive fast in corners because of its better weight distribution......

You guys are dreaming; a C6 Z51 won't even out perform/handle a C5 Z06,
much less a GT3. Check the B-Bash numbers: The C6 Z51 falls just a tad
short of the C5 Z06. You're going to be disappointed when you see that the
car mag. numbers will have the half second gap from what GM is saying the
Z51 will do. But go ahead and keep kidding yourselves if it makes you sleep
better...

You must have a Z06. I think if anything the new Z51 will run right with the old Z06 and edge it out in some areas. I also think it has more than 400hp.

Here are some of the latest performance numbers put by the GT3 that was tested by R&T:

0-60 in 4.2 sec
1/4 mile 12.4@113.8
Slalom 68.7mph
Skidpad 0.92g's

Those numbers are good but IMO it won't blow away the C6 Z51.....

Actually i think the C6 Z51 will pull much more than 0.92 g's and probably reach the 70 mph mark in the Slalom....

I think the area were the GT3 has a clear edge over the Vette is in the Brakes (Ceramic) after repeated fast laps were the discs temperature begins to rise rapidly........

Ceramic can resist much higher temperature than iron discs.....

One thing is sure if a C6 Z51 would weigh in the same as a Z06 it would beat it easily at the Track......

and in top speed the C6 will simply smoke the pipes of the Z06...

(186 mph vs 171 mph)

Yeah, but it doesn't weigh in the same as a C5 Z06, now does it? If there's
one thing you should have learned by now it's that GM always underachieves.
It's only 400 horses; it weighs more than a C5 Z06. I've read numerous
times that they tried to make the base C6 Z51 as quick as the C5 Z06 but
came up just a bit short. And, if it has such a higher top end speed, then why
did Dave Hill say the following:
"If the C5 Z06 was 4 seconds a lap quicker than the base C5s, then the C6
Z51 gains three of those seconds back."

You're still just a tad short...sorry.

With about 130 pounds or so more than a Z, five less ponies and smaller tires and the C6 is just a second of the pace of the Z that is very impressive......

I take the C6 anytime and it an easier car to drive at its limits.......

I believe the GT3 will pull better acceleration numbers, by virtue of it getting superior traction at launch. Remember, there is a rear weight bias of right around 60/40 with the rear engine Porsche. This allows the GT3's rear tires to dig in. A set of sticky tires for the vette would somewhat offset the GT3's advantage. Heck, if you wanted to spend a few more $$ you could put the vette on a diet with lighter weight wheels, tires, (exhaust?) and seats. But then you would have a 1 dimensional car like the GT3.

So many numbers, so little time.
Motor trend says they got
GT3 at
0-60 at 3.9
1/4 mile at 12.1/116

I want one, but just can't make the payments. I can get 2 vettes for the price of one.

I hope one of the rags runs this comparison; my boss's GT3 is showing up in about 2 to 3 weeks, and my C6 should be here a few months later. Numbers are close... right up to the $75K discount I got on the vette...
