Default 2005 C6 Convertible---or Mercedes E55 AMG

I am having a hell of a time deciding if I want the new C6 or a 2004 Mercedes E55 AMG. (Cost is not a factor in the decision)

I love my C5 and I really like the looks of the C6, but damn that E55 has impressive numbers!

Does anyone know anyone with an E55?

My dad has a E55 AMG ...

It is a completely different beast ... the E55 is great for those who want the speed and performance of a sports car yet the ability to have more than 1 passenger ...

If I had to make a choice ... I would say C6 ... but that is because I think the E55 is 'Just another Benz' to many ... but the C6 is a Corvette ...

If $$$ is not a factor ... maybe wait and check out a C6 Z06 ... E55 HP ... C6 looks ...

Interesting question. I was just reading an article this morning on the crapper about the new SLK that will be available with the V8 as a SLK55. And it will be closely priced with the C6 convertible (which I am already on a list to get).

For me, the decision is easy because it's a weekend car, and I love shifting gears. The SLK, and the E55 are automatic only. But for an only car, and if the automatic is not an issue, the E55 is a hell of a car. I wish I could afford it as my daily driver.

I would not flame you if you went that direction, but I think it's more a matter of what you use the car for.

Exactly ... my dad has a Vette and the E55 ... but the daily car is the E55 since he may take clients around ...

Either way ... you can't go wrong

If $$$ isn't a factor, why don't you just get an SL55? THAT is the baddest ***** on the block.

If money is not a factor, then get an Enzo Ferrari. That's the baddest mother
on the planet...IMO.

SL class or bust. MB quality as of late hasn't been up to par with what it is renound for. It's actually fallen in quality slowly since the purchase of DC.

A lot of people don't know or haven't heard of the decline of benzes quality over the 6 years. Lot's of electrical problems from what I've read and conversations with different people who own or know someone who owns one.

Having a 2000 CLK 55 AMG from new, I just can say that it was a nightmare of repairs, lasting about 9 months.
Mostly electronic problems with the fancy new navigation and phone, noise problems like rattling too.
Worst was the noise of an desintegrating weld-spot , causing a sharp metallic "tick".
Finally all the problems were solved at the local works-subsidiary and the car is rock-solid now.
I am waiting for the C 6 now, want to have a sports car with a 6-speed and no 2000 kg behemoth, the MB cars have grown to.

Regards from Germany

Stefan

I just read in a recent issue of Autoweek that Mercedes ranked 31st out of 32 brands in a recent quality survey. Ouch! Apparently the models suffering from the most problems are the S-Class, E-Class and C-Class. Tons of electrical problems are causing these cars to spend more time in the shop than on the road. The SL wasn't listed as one of the models affected by these problems which is great because I wouldn't want anything to lessen the effect that car has on me..........

I agree. The Carrera GT is awesome, but the Enzo is..........well, it's an Enzo. As 04msmZ06 said, "the baddest ***** on the planet". End of story.

I believe 2thdr was speaking in terms of the cost differential of the MB E55 and the C6 vert..

Keep the C5..and get the E55 stands as a hell of a way to go..

The C6 is a nice evolution of the C5 but not enough to sell the C5 your so enjoying and probably paid for..

Adding an E55 to the stable sounds like a great plan..

Sorry if I offend anyone but I think the Ferrari Enzo is uglier than a dogs shaved behind. The Carrera GT is sexy as all HELL!!! I would get that any day over an Enzo. Besides, if you're going to spend money on an Enzo then I would personally rather have the McLaren F1. After I bought all my favorite Lambo's of course. I'm a bigger Lambo fan myself.

MB quality started the downward spiral b4 the purchase of crysler. it started when they came out with the SLK and the ML. the purchase of chryler and the heavy investment in mitsubishi didn't help. this is a prime example of a company over extending itself. I would go with the vette if transporting people wasn't an issue. if it is wait for the new M5 or the next gen. Audi RS6. I would suggest waiting for the Caddi STS-V but i heard it is only going to have 430 hp from the SC northstar. In my opinion they should drop the Z06 engine in the STS-V

best of luck if you decide on the mercedes...i had a 98 s600 last year and it was a nightmare...

My sister's boss had an 02 or an 03 slk32amg and apparently had similar problems with it...

Of course, if I had the cash, problems or not, it'd be hard not to buy the sl55amg
