C6..This car will keep the value of the C5 high.
I applaud GM in their new design not only does it look great it will help keep the C5's looking modern. I hate mentioning other cars but Porsche has had only minor design changes to it's 911 since it's inception. These minor changes keep value high because the differences are hard to distinguish between years thus keeping car owners happier for longer. The 1997 C5 owners have cars that still look like this years brand new Corvette to the average person and will continue to look that way with the new design. Total redesigns upset owners because their car is no longer recognized by their owners as new cool cars, they become older cool cars. I know that if you're still paying payments, the last thing you want is your car to be classified as last years model.

I think some of the less interested or less car savvy will think the C5 is a newer design than the C6. :yesnod:

Uhhhh..... right. People who aren't savvy might not get it - I've had people who aren't, tell me they loved my new Corvette. And mine's a 95. It just happens to be really shiny. :D
But those aren't the folks who'll be buying a used C5. Those folks are the ones who aren't bidding more than $25 grand for a 2001 on eBay.
The only way C5s will retain their value compared to the C6 is if they become the automotive equivilent of Beanie Babies. A cadre of collectors who convince themselves that they are worth more money and create an artificial market. I wouldn't hold your breath.

On another note, this topic has been discussed in other threads. The price of the C5 will depreciate significantly, regardless, just as nearly every other car depreciates. Buy it to drive it, not as an investment.
Your other points are valid and very interesting.

I have a 95 mint condition and only have 25K on it and someone said is that new. They don't know one generation from the next, but someone looking at buying one and spending their money do know and that's a vast majority. You're trying to tell yourself that. In 7 years a mint car no matter goes down in half or more. These are not investments! You drive that car off the dealership lot it's used and going down.
One final thing C5 people you can now join all of us the C1's, C2's, C3's, and the C4's. Chevrolet sells a plate The Heartbeat of America Yesterday's Corvette! :chevy
It's not a bad thing it's a good thing!

I don't know, most C5's(except Z06) are below $20k already, convertibles slightly over $20k.
