Also surprising AutoWeek comments about the interior....
The Autoweek article was just posted, and was very complementary about the C6, even addressing the exposed lights and "looks like a Viper" issues.
However there was a surprise comment down in the copy about the interior. Considering the controversy the interior has caused, the comments are notable:
Quote:
Inside, GM is promising dramatic improvements in material quality, though we couldnÂ’t judge that on the prototypes we were shown: The materials were faked-up for photography purposes, not yet in their final production form.
End Quote.
In the meantime, their picture of the interior is really good looking, but even I have my doubts about the steering wheel. To those who have discussed parts sharing, I would only add that parts sharing is reasonable and needed to control costs, but I just wish they wouldn't pick a part that was so visable!
But I digress. You need to read their report, which is great, and I will only add the comment that they point out that the C6, while obviously evolving from the C5, is about 85% new parts! And influenced by world priorities.
A good article, a great car.
Regards,

The steering wheel is not shared with any other model.

Re: Also surprising AutoWeek comments about the interior.... (Hoosier Red)
I believe we solved the issue in other threads, in that the stering wheel structure was shared with another existing Chevy, but the cover and appearance is different. Makes no difference to me, since it would not keep me from buying the car, and I agree with parts sharing anyway. But IF they do it, I wish it would be less obvious.
But the point of the original post was the Autoweek post about the interior not being a production interior in the car they are showing. I thought that members on both sides of the issue would find that interesting, since the prevailing assumption seems to be that what we were seeing was production.

You actually saw the whole interior in person?

I too, don't like the steering wheel. Butt ugly, until I see one in person at least. But remember, way back in 1977, the new for '77 brochure had a much different steering wheel pictured than what was finally produced and installed. We have to remember that the C6's we see are still pre-production and GM could still very possibly change the steering wheel design before full production starts. I'm not hot at all with the entire car, but I want to see one in person before I make a final decision. I'm also hoping that when they debut the '06 Z06, there will be more dramatic visual differences than we saw with our current C5 Z06's from the standard C5 coupes.

Im kind of surprised that chevy dosent sell a real aluminum upgrade kit, for replacement of all that fake aluminum. Maybe they will or maybe in final production trim it will be replaced by better fake aluminum (like in the mazda 6 or Rx8 interior, can hardley tell its not real, but a real upgrade kit would be better). I dont know why the wheel bothers everyone, it looks fine to me, the 4 spokes are all in logical places, and the hand gap at the bottom wont allow you to slip if your just crusing the highway and dont want both hands in the classic position.

I be prepared to say 95% or Even higher.
from the photos, the only thing I can see shared are the brake calipers (as mentioned by someone else, they have the "old" C5 script, not the new C6 style, so that leads us to think they are old at the moment, but will be updated with the new script for production).
Other than that, not a shared part I can see.

While the principles of C6 engineering are carried over from the C5, nearly every detail has changed. “By weight, more than 85 percent of the car is entirely new,” points out Corvette’s Hill.

Chunk the runflats. Then, you could use that big, nasty steering wheel for a spare.

I am suprised though, I guess it's the structure that will be the main part that is sharing (and the weight as well)
