Default What markups will be on the first year C6?

What do you think about dealer markups for the first year? I imagine demand will be relatively high.

I was nowhere near being in the market for a vette when the C5 came out so I have no idea - is there a major rush for the new model? Is it mitigated by the 'first model year' fear?

Interested in opinions

I think it will be in the $5-10K range. The C5 was a giant leap forward, so these markups lasted wuite a while. Heck in fall of 2000 I was lucky to find someone to sell me one at sticker in S CA!!! That was more than 3 years after its release!!!

A guy I used to live with paid $5K over sticker for a friggin MR2 Spyder when they came out (paid 28K on a 23K sticker).

I'm guessing it will be 1.5-2 years before most dealers will sell them at sticker. Get on a forum dealer's waiting list now (they will sell at sticker) if you want one.

C6 is different from C5 in that it's not as radical a reengineering. And Z06 breaks cover soon after coupes and convertibles hit the street. And we've heard word that a six-speed auto is on the way. And the world is way more wired than it was in the early years of C5. All this points to a shorter gouging period (or at least a moving gouging target, i.e. the specific model/option that's newest) for C6 than for C5.

But I think the strength of the economy at large will have more to do with how long price gouging occurs than anything about the car itself.

One of the major reasons for the high markup of the C5 is that the first year was a limited production run, only 9752 cars were built the first model year because of production delays and problems.

There are several dealer taking orders now for the C5 at MSRP.

A normally-equipped Coupe (not stripped) will probably be close to 60K out the door.
Maybe 58-59.

MSRP for the coupe will be the same for the C6 as the final MSRP price for the C5. :cheers:

:iagree: Probably close, at least. As I recall, the C5 (MSRP) was actually a little less than an equivalent C4, because the manufacturing economics was significantly better.

Edit: Slight correction - the '97 base coupe was $270 more than the '96; the '98 'vert was $635 less than the '96.

My concern isn't the MSRP but what the dealers will be asking. I remember in 2001 here in Dallas dealers were marking up the Mag Red and Yellow, so I expect significant markup on the C6.

Hey, I thought I saw posts from dealers, either on this web site or elsewhere, inviting people to order (request) C6's at MSRP. Maybe I'm just getting old. :lolg:

I dont think they will go up to the 60k mark....im guessing right around 50-52 for sticker of a nicely equiped coupe....dealer markup...dont know.

In May, 1999 I got my FRC for $1500 under sticker. At that time I was told that I did "real good." I would NEVER pay MSRP or over for ANY car. I wouldn't be surprised if the C6 follows the same pattern as the C5:

* First year, over sticker.

* Second year, sticker.

* Third year $1000 to $1500 under sticker

* Each year after that the discounts get larger.

As for what sort of premium the greedy dealers may try to gouge from those who feel a need that they must be the first on the block who knows :confused:

You saw it...I gave Tom Jumper Chevy a deposit on a C6 this past June. Several other supporting dealers are also taking deposits...the deal is for MSRP. :thumbs:

In this age of internet buying I am confident that we will be seeing discounts by the the end of the 2005 model year. We might have to see Monica to get a few thousand off MSRP. :leaving:

On the 97 C5 there were plenty of dealers initially selling at MSRP with no adders and they will do the same with the C6 so there is no reason for a wise purchaser to pay over MSRP on any Vette. Before the 97 production run finished dealers were already marking them down and they didn't start selling the cars until the first week of March that year.

C6 isn't a radical reengineering? Did I read your post wrong? It's the biggest change Corvette has ever made.
