Not a "Shock & Awe" C6...?
 If these photos are for real. Then I have to submit that the C6
is just a "souped up", revisited C5 - as far as styling goes.
I was a complete car nut at age 12 and saw the '68 Stingray debut.
Words cannot, till this day, capture the "shock and awe" of seeing one for the first time. I must say that upon seeing these photos I felt a deep sense
of commitment to my C5. I think I'll keep her for awhile... :yesnod:

This has been, and probably will be one of the most debated subjects on this forum. I for one will disagree with you. While the C6 may look somewhat like a C5, it has cues from other generations of vettes. Plus, it has an entirely new chassis, making it more than just a "souped up" C5. JMO, as I said, this is a VERY subjective issue.

Captain, I will say that it is a beautiful car in the photos. And, I should reserve my opinion until I see one in person and up close. All I really want to get across is that Larry Shinoda kicked booty on the world of styling when he rolled out the C3 Stingray. I was there. The goosebumps were huge!

I asked Dave Hill this question at the Cruise In.
I asked, is the C6 going to be a rebody or is it a ground up design.
His reply was that it is more than a rebody, but not a complete ground up redo. The C6 is based on the C5 as far as the frame and backbone are concerned. The body and drivetrain are the main differences.
The newest pics, makes me want to get a home equity loan and go buy one. That thing is sweet!

I can completely see your point. I was not around for the unveiling of the C3, but I would have been in the same boat. However, when I think of the performance of the C6 and couple that with the looks (I see a lot of C3 in the C6), the hair stands up on the back of my neck. I am extremely excited for the Z06 to come out.

GDP,
I'm not sure I can appreciate your semantical interpretations coming from a guy whose byline is "Dr. Giggles cant stop until it tickles" :skep:
How's about "The new C6 should visually be beyond the Ferrari F360 Modena but not quite to the Ferrari Enzo".
BTW. What does "Elite Member" mean????

   Glad to know that Dave Hill has sparked your soul.
However, I am not gonna place a blind order for a C6. Speaking of the chassis. Is it possible that it will have some tubular steel integrations?

If I ever decide to buy one, it probably won't be until 2006 or so. So like you said, I won't be placing a blind order either.

Secondly, seeing that phrase is almost as bad as coming across a post made in all caps with no punctuation.

ANd you're also forgetting another group of us here, and I think we are more numerous than you might realize: People who don't live in awe of Corvette's history.
Don't get me wrong, I respect it, but I don't worship it. I was driven home from the hospital in 1965 in my father's 289, 3 speed manual! Mustang. My first car was a 1968 Cougar which I hotrodded with a 302 engine.
My first NEW car was a 1988 Mustang 5.0 and my next car was a 1993 Mustang Cobra.
In 1997, I saw the new Vette and decided I'd get one - when I could afford it.
Dec 1999 I purchased a 2000 coupe.
2001 came the Z06 with 385 hp. Tempting, but not enough.
2002, I bought a 405hp Z06.
Now comes the C6. I'm hooked on Z06's, I won't buy a 2005 C6. But I will be looking at a 2006/7 Z06 for sure.
My point? There are a lot of us here who love the new (late-C4, C5, C6) Corvettes because they are fast as *****, look pretty darn good and handle like they are superglued to the pavement.
As long as they keep doing that, I'll keep buying them.

I suppose my opinion is worth no more or less than any other on here, so here goes.....I have held on to my dear C4 over the past seven years because the C5 just didn't do it for me. I figured the thrill of owning a new corvette was relegated to my past. This new C6 gives me a feeling that I couldn't capture during the C5 years. Dave Hill got this one right. That is one beautiful car and I...must...have...one.

GDP, Well just call me naive and behind the times. I wouldn't know about
quotes from rap. (It kinda hurts my ears) Thanks for the ed, though.
Instead of "Shock and Awe" how's about a line from Sister Hazel.
"You look much better when you glow, Oh yeah"
Or maybe the ulitmate Donald Rumsfeld quote. "I have no idea what you are talking about"...
P.S. WTF is "Elite Member" (and I hope you're not referring to a body part)

As for the real topic, think of it this way, there are still people who don't like the C5....

Re: Not a "Shock & Awe" C6...? (Podracer)
Podracer, I too felt a deep appreciation for my C4 '89 Cpe until I hosted several senior Corvette engineers at my former company. One of them told me that "the C5 would make my C4 feel like a station wagon". Damn him!
I went out that weekend and test drove a '98 Cpe... He couldnt have said it better. Have you driven a C5???

Tom, the only reason I "live in Corvette history" is because I'm old enuf ( and obsessive enuf) to remember this crap.
Anyways, I appreciate your opinion. Guys ilke you keep GM honest.
BTW. I grew up in Hendersonville, NC with many relatives in Greenville.
Do you guys still live and breathe Clemson????

Thanks OZVETTE. Now I have to ask. Are those 10,000 "quality" posts?
If not I beleive that GDP is talking out of one of his "Elite Member" body parts...

<<Dave Hill got this one right>>
Uh, yeah right. Get a clue dude. Just because you aren't into the C5 doesn't automatically mean it's "not right".
I guess you've missed it being said, by everyone, over and over and over that the C5 is the best Vette yet. Period.
