Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C5HORSEPOWER RATING................ (Runge_Kutta)
it will probably be 400hp/400ftlbs then creep its way up to 425-430 over the years. the car is hopefully going to be lighter and more than a 50hp increase in a lighter car just seems like too much. you might get that in an evo or sti but all they have to do is turn up the boost, its doesnt work that way with the vette or gm. the z06 will have to have at least 500hp because if it doesnt there will be riots in the streets and utter chaos, and gm doesnt want that. the zl1 im not so sure. has this actually been confirmed or is it still in concept form?

:iagree:
I just got a feeling it's going to be 400-405HP...Especially because of the Z06 I'd bet we're going to see 400HP as the final number with small increases over the years...However knowing GM we'll probably see real world dynos at 385RWHP...

Please explain something to me.
I don't understand the appeal of an automatic transmission in a Corvette. This is a performance car, and putting a slush box in this car is crippling it. Now this is not a slam against auto drivers, I just don't understand the appeal of doing this to a Corvette. There is so little control over RPMs/gear selection while transitioning from curve to corner to curve that the result is a car that looses much of its performance package. The only thing I can see usefull about an auto in a Corvette is that you take away the shifting skill factor and add consistancy into straight line romps. Of course you can also practice shifting with a manual to get very high consistancy. So why...why do so many autos sell. Please remember, I am not attacking auto drivers, I just want to know what could make a person decide that giving up the control of a manual is acceptable, or I guess I mean desireable in a performance car.

The hp is always less than the speculation predicts!

Re: Please explain something to me. (OHSIXX)
OHsix is right. I remember before the Z06 was introduced reading on their forum that the forthcoming car was going to have 500 horse power and be 500 pounds lighter then the current C5.

Im skeptical of 455 as well. The prevous z06 only had 405, do you think the first year of the c6 will have a base engine of 455?

Practicality: My 'vette is a daily driver. I do not want to sit in traffic with a six speed. :nono:
Availability: Most C4s produced had automatic transmissions.
Reliability: Replacement of the clutch is costly.
Ability: As a not-so-experienced driver (18 years old), I've never even had the chance to drive a standard. I know it's not hard, I know it's second nature after a while. But I've still never driven one.

scheduled for 455HP. Now, I don't know if that is the regular coupe motor
or the Z06 motor. But, lets assume that the new Vette is ~200 lbs lighter
than the current car. On top of that it picks up 50HP. on top of that it
has more displacement, so torque will go up."
J-Rod: "As for the HP rating. That came from FRC Tom. He posted in 2001
about a "friend" in GM engine developement working on a 455HP 6.4L motor.
This actually came to light in 2001. With this, I think we have been able
to verify that Tom's sources were correct on the engine size."

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C5HORSEPOWER RATING................ (Runge_Kutta)
I'd love to see a 455hp base vette that would be pretty sick.
I don't think 405hp is gonna cut it looking at all the sedans and lower priced sports cars upping their hp numbers bit by bit year by year. Even the new CTS-V is gonna have 405 i think its gonna be pretty lame if they let a 4 door caddy put out the same power as a base model C6.
Crossing my fingers for a 455 base coupe even though i plan on buying the C6 Z06 version anyways.

The biggest reason for an automatic is....driving in stop and go traffic.

When I bought my vette in 99 I just wanted a sporty looking red car with some power and having never driven a stick much(and not one auto school in Miami has a stick to teach with), the A4 was a natural. NOOOOW that I've gotten into all this mod stuff, Auto-x, lapping, drags, etc-- I would definitely go with the M6, and if GM really does put out a super 600+ hp vette I'm so there!

'OK, here's the Big Scoop: The plant manager addressed the crowd during the awards presentation and told us he could NOT give details about the C6 engine, but "think 4 and 5."
