"Why would you think that an automatic transmission couldn't handle 455 HP?"
Well, here are some of GM AT options now and in the near future. I'd
guess a 455hp LS7 would put out about 450lbs-ft of torque. I also
suspect that the engine redline will be at least 6500 rpm.
4L60-E (M30)
Max. Engine Torque = 360 lbs-ft
Max. Shift Speed = 6100 rpm
Wet Weight = 163.2 lbs
4L65-E (M32)
Max. Engine Torque = 380 lbs-ft
Max. Shift Speed = 5600 rpm
Wet Weight = 194.6 lbs
4L80-E (MT1)
Max. Engine Torque = 440 lbs-ft
Max. Shift Speed = 5200 rpm
Wet Weight = 254 lbs
4L85-E (MN8)
Max. Engine Torque = 460 lbs-ft
Max. Shift Speed = 5200 rpm
Wet Weight = 255 lbs
5L50-E (M22)
Max. Engine Torque = 311 lbs-ft
Max. Shift Speed = 6500 rpm
Wet Weight = 190 lbs
X13R/X14R/X15R/X16R - (Future RWD, 6-speed Automatics)
Max. Engine Torque = 258/332/430/520 lbs-ft
Max. Engine HP = 255/315/402/452 HP
Weight - Who knows? Not me!!
From this list, maybe the X16R would work but I think that this
transmission was meant for big trucks. There is also a 4L65E
running around that has been beefed up for the Chevrolet SS
but that was for 430 lbs-ft and 430 hp.

Ok, so based on the way General ST worded his post, 455 will be the base C6 engine. And if you take into account what you are saying, then all c6s will be stick.
If General ST is right, could it be possible that GM has something else in the pipe for the C6 transmission?

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C6HORSEPOWER RATING................ (Runge_Kutta)
As much as I like to hear 455HP and base engine in the same sentence, I see 6.4 L which we KNOW is the LS7 and NOT the LS2 6.0 L. :skep:
OOPS, General ST didn't say 6.4 L, that was in the posts that Runge directed us to. I'm a bit more encouraged. Think I'll skip lunch today afterall and put the money in my C6 jar.

Just tell me one thing... on a scale of 1-100 how reliable is this source? 1 being "not reliable at all" and 100 being "you can bet your soul on it"

Re: Great (jerome)
I talked to a buddy at GM over a year ago, and he said he had seen the LS7 being dynoed. He didn't know displacement, but the engineers there said that they would conservatively rate it at 450, but some engines were putting out closer to 500hp.

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C6HORSEPOWER RATING................ (Runge_Kutta)
The most interesting part of that post is the 472 hp he saw being produced by an engine on the dyno. The dyno operator claimed it was an LS6. That doesn't compute. Zippy should be knowledge enough to be able to see if the heads were wide enough to be three valve. As he didn't say anything about wide heads, I have to believe it was a two valve engine. But which one? No LS6 that I've ever seen produced that kind of power in stock form. Further, that power rating doesn't go with anything. Why was Zippy so facinated by the comments of an executive and not more interested in the 472 hp LS6?

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C5HORSEPOWER RATING................ (ghostRder)
You will see 500 hp on the C6 Z06. For the base model C6, 455 hp would be fantastic, that is a 105 horsepower increase over the current C5 base model. Couple that with a lower weight and better aerodynamics and the performance specs are going to be unreal!!!!!!!

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C5HORSEPOWER RATING................ (GENERAL ST)
I'm :skep:. How do you know that this is the engine that's going in the C6? Sure it's a Gen IV engine, but how do know it's not just a display to showcase what GM can do?

OK, all I'm seeing is:
Base: 400-410 hp
Z06: 500 hp
ZL1: 625 hp
Were you mistaken (that's OK, I do it all the time) or is there
more to come??

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C5HORSEPOWER RATING................ (Runge_Kutta)
I wonder if people read this section of the forum. From pretty good sources we "know" already the LS2 is 6.0 liters and that it is paired with the 4L65E tranny, which has been described thoroughly in a GM performance site linked to a message on this board. The torque rating for the new tranny is "around 400 lb ft." End of discussion. Max HP has to be in the same ballpark as torque.
Probably "de-tune" the A4 just a hair, like they do the C5's.
 Still sounds good to me! (MN6 around 405 and 405, A4 400/390)

I would love nothing more than 455. However, my gut tells me 405, and even then I am worried.

Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING........C5HORSEPOWER RATING................ (Timmy's C5)
I think base would be 405 hp but with the BP50 option you get the extra 50hp.
BP50 would be bike pedals mounted on the passenger side and for the extra 50hp they have to pedal like crazy...
