500hp C6??? 24valves? is this true?
I picked this up on the c5 section about the C6.... Is this true? Is this suppose to be on the base model or some special model?
"In a recent SAE newsletter it has been confimed that the C6 will have a 500hp 3 valve per cylinder variable valve timing, displacement on demand 6.3L V8."

That is pretty much the conclusion around here. Dave Hill has spouted a number of hints but he has denied DOD. However some of his denials now appear to be related to the first year available vehicle. That 3 valve rumor seems to be the only way to get that much output from that size engine which is suspected as the Z06 replacement coming for the 2006 model year.

I agree but my concern is the reliability of the heads. Gm won't put an engine that isn't reliable in the field. They learned that lesson with the Caddy 8-6-4 DOD & the small diesels back in the 70's.

After reading most of what's around here, I'm getting the impression that variable cam timing is almost a certainty but we can't seem to confirm the 3 valve head for the LS7. Do you guys agree?
Also, I remember the 4-6-8 crap from the 80's. I don't really want it in the C6, but I have a lot more confidence in todays technology being able to make it work. Personally, I'd rather give up the 3 mpg but if it lets the "big motor" make it into production, them I'm for it.

If the General HAD 500HP available we WOULDN'T get it the first year of the C6.
Why? Because the sequel would be to difficult.
The General is selling ALL the 350HP Corvettes he can make.
He'll sell all the 425HP Vettes he can make too.
Purely from a marketing standpoint it'd make absolutely no sense to come out with a 500HP C6 when we will buy ALL the 425HP Vettes that can be produced.
GM WILL always keep that HP carrot to dangle in front of us.
We "MAY" get 500HP but it will be given in increments over the next several (5-6) years.

The SAE article on three valve heads has a specific quote refering to the Corvette 500hp engine. I think we can it for granted that there is a 3 valve 500hp Corvette engine under development.

I like that!
I hope vettnutsjim is wrong and they give us the full monty in '06 (we all know 500 HP won't be available the first year of C6 jim, but it is being implied for the first C6 Z06). GM has been quite effective w/ their carrot dangling strategy over the years. I remember getting excited over the availability of a dual catalyst exhaust on my '91 Z-28 for a 15 HP increase. GM had me right where they wanted me.....trading in that '86 IROC. That was no accident. What IS in our favor is the tremendous market driven competition that may cause them to give us what we want sooner. :steering:

Re: Round and round (Yano)
I don't think they'll hold stuff back just for the sake of doing so. I'm not that cynical.
After all the competition isn't sitting still.
The Viper is already at 500 and the new Ford GT will have it too. Now, admittedly one might argue that both cars are the next level above the Z06 but Chevy always has been about performance/value.
I think if they can reliably put out 500 hp with the new design then we'll get it with the Z06. They've got some time to make it happen too.
