The C6 will be at the Venetian in Vegas this Weekend and "new" C6 info
I was staying at the hotel last weekend on my honeymoon and ran into a GM man at the pool. He had a vette T-shirt on and I just started talking to him. He said the C6 would definitely be there this weekend. This is third party confirmation of this post http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=646390.
Among other things he said, he was very excited about the C6 Z06 camless engine that will produce 550 hp. He said the 550 hp is due to GM's directed effort to surpass the Viper's performance. He also said the internet rumor that 14 engineers were fired from GM for leaking the information was not true and that they merely got a slap on the wrist.
The gentleman was very nice to talk to and we spent 35 minutes chatting about vettes.

At the risk of sounding stupid is the Wankel Rotary engine camless?
My guess of a two-stroke was stupid. It would be virtually impossible for a two-stroke to meet emissions.
Yeah..., that's the ticket, a rotary. Those GM patents on engines with two inblock cams and three valve heads must be just make work projects for the lawyers. ;)

Re: The C6 will be at the Venetian in Vegas this Weekend and "new" C6 info (Electron2002)
My guess would be they will use the electric valve actuator solenoids that had been mentioned a while back. In other words there are electronically controlled gadgets attached to the valves that push them up and down. This would allow for completely variable valve timing as well as a great reduction of friction and valve train power loss.
I'm not disparaging the original poster or calling him a liar - I think he was told a fish story. Electronically controlled/electrically actuated valves for infinitely variable valve timing and inlet valve throttling have been discussed several times in the past.
Bottom line: This technology is so far in the future that no OEM has such an engine in their most far reaching plans. It's been an R&D effort for a long time, and it continues to be so today.

Pulled up next to a guy at a light on my way to work this am that was driving a suburban with markings from one of our local Phx. dealers. He said he was a sales mgr and had been in Vegas last weekend for an official unveiling for dealers. He said the C6 is "super trick". Said it appears lower and the suspension is "near race" quality. I asked about horsepower and he said the Z06 was supposed to be 500+ (I guess that could mean 550). :hurray:
