I like it on the passenger side, but the rear is more traditional.

Like the C4 had it...I like being able to pull in on either side and its funny to see people look at the unique middle location with the trick door. I wouldn't have it any other way...leave the side gas caps to the minivans and pickups! :jester

there's is no good place. i like the cap in the center rear, but sometimes, there is some yacko in front of you and you can't pull up far enough. they should make vette only pumps specific to where the new cap will be located. :jester

What was wrong with the way the C4 had it? You could pull in the gas station on any side.

Never had a C4 but had a mid-year with the gas opening in the center of the rear deck. Beside being a pain to keep from scratching the paint you have to be careful NOT to spill and gas on the paint while it's over part of the car. I know you still have to be careful when it's on the side but it's not as easily spilled on it there. I do like it on the driver's side so you don't have to walk around the car to fill it up even if you do have to be careful opening the car door ! ;)

Stretching the hose to the middle of the car is a pain.
:iagree: plus, you gotta worry about scratches from the bottom of the handle. I think it would be trick behind one of the tail lamps, but we all know that won't happen.

Weight distribution. With the old C4 style the car was back heavy with a full tank of gas and front heavy with a near empty tank. The C5 uses two 9-gallon tanks in the center of gravity of the car. One tank is on the right and one on left, by doing it that way the weight bias due to the weight distribution of the gas is not a factor.

It’s there for a reason, can anyone guess the reason? It’s

While this might be true, it's not the primary reason the gas tank it split in the C5. It's because the transmission is in back and it's the only way they could fit a tank of decent size without lengthing the rear clip or taking up cargo space. Things they were seriously trying to avoid. Plus, if they had to put in a spare tire, it would have been in the center storage compartment.

I remember Dave Hill gave a talk back in March of 98 at the Corvette museum and he stated they put it in the center for weight distribution.

Re: Where whould you like to see the gas cap on the C6? (Mongooser)
I explained why it is where it is, can anyone that wants it in a different place explain the advantage of putting it there from an engineering stand point and how relocating will it improve the handling / performance of the car. Looking cool isn’t a good reason.
