Does anyone here actually work on their car on a 4 post lift?

I have the sliding jack that can lift front or rear wheels on my 4 post lift, it was a pricey option at 800 bucks but makes working on the car a lot quicker. I have changed my exhaust and starter on my hoist with no issues. As stated earlier also makes detailing your car a lot easier on your back.
I was considering an airbag type setup due to funds and not having that behemoth jack in the way while working on the car

Four-post lift is what I use for maintenance and detailing. I have two bridge jacks which rest on the lift ramps that will jack the car up if needed while it's on the lift - I tell folks it turns a 4-post into a makeshift 2-post lift. Wouldn't be without one while I'm still able to work on the toys. Makes it easy to remove all four wheels and work on suspension, brakes, tire rotations and such, while also being able to raise the car to any working height I need for maintenance or cleaning it up after a drive. Also good for freeing up floor space by bunking one car under another. The only thing I can see where the 4-post would be an issue is dropping the drive train.

I have a 4 post, and I use it. Like some have said, I store one on top during the winter, and park another underneath. If I need the lift, I just move them. As for options like jacks, trays etc, if you have deep pockets, the lift makers have gobs of goodies to add to your lift for any situation. Also, not mentioned here, if you're have a bad day, a good office chair and the lift at half mast works well too. I am tight, so I bought a couple bottle jacks and a piece of channel that lays between the rails. I set the bottle jacks on that when I need to remove wheels for any reason. I've done all kinds of repair. Mine is a big rotary brand lift. Got it when a school closed their auto shop. Sad case. Only open one year and never used because the teacher got sick and the school system decided that shop class was no longer important.

Thanks for all the input guys! I appreciate it and love seeing people actually work on their cars still
Hooefully the investment is worth the $$$.
I will be waiting until I install the lift to do my longtubes. What better way to break it in!

A four post is definitely better than no lift, but there is a good reason shops use 2 posts almost exclusively for work. There will be times where the ramps are just in the freaking way and there is no getting around that. I'm sure you will be happy with any lift though after using the quickjacks.

i do not have a full service shop, so not concerned what professional shops prefer.
agreed on the rest though

Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure my logic was not flawed too much. I do have to think about jacking the car up still. I still have quickjacks until I sell them, but wanted to think this out more.
Seems YouTube is just littered with car guys that take pictures of their cars on lifts and tell you how great they are, but don’t actually work on their cars.

Yes, as mentioned in your previous thread, I have a four post, and yes I work on my Vette, doing basic maintenance i.e. oil changes etc. It great not having to crawl around on the ground any more. When I’m not working on the Vette, I store my 67 Firebird on it and keep my tractor underneath, so for me it’s a real space saver. I’ve also used it for working on my ATV’s and side by side. I have a 30’ x 70’ shop with 14’ side walls, but I have a lot of stuff, it it’s pretty full. Did I mentioned, it’s great not having to crawl around on the ground.

i wish everyday for a bigger garage. My 2 car garage is more constrained than my last 1 car funny enough.
i bought my house because it has like an 18x24 shed with concrete slab. I swore I was turning that into a shop with a lift…… until I realized what it cost to pave a 150’ driveway back to it. So my car still sits in my pleb sized basic garage and I struggle to justify a lift

I have a 4 post BendPak 9k pound lift. Love it. I do what I call basic maintenance on all my vehicles and use the lift for all of it; fluid changes, brakes, suspension, exhaust, even cleaning (saves your back on clay bar, wax, and polishing). I got the 9k lb one so I could service my Yukon and my son’s F150. I basically store one of my two Vettes on it at all times, hence the main reason I went with a 4 post. To do brakes and suspension, as noted above, there are various ways to get the wheels off the runways. I’m too cheap to pay the $1,500 to get the jack that is made to fit in between the runways and raise half the car (ie front wheels or rear wheels) off the runways. I purchased two 10 ton tall jack stands and use them to raise rear wheels or front wheels up. Here’s some pics:
