A4 hardshift after warming up - due to tune ?
Hey Yall
Thanks for looking. Any suggestions and info would be appreciated
I had the A4 Automatic in my 2005 rebuilt about a year ago and put about 8k miles on it since then.
I had a tune and stage 1 cam installed about 3 years ago.
About 2 months ago my A4 started bucking into 2nd and 3rd gear only after driving for 25 minutes.
The Trans shop said that my Tune is to blame - i dont belive that.
anyone have experienced this ? thanks

First thing to check would be to see if any codes are thrown.

I would doubt the tune to if it just started. I will say hard shifting is an odd symptom for a 4l60e. Typically they flair. Leads me to believe you may have some sort of solenoid issue. What kind of trans fluid temps are you seeing? A TPS issue can also cause a hard shift. I would agree with Fats, check it for codes (and not just with a standard obd2 reader but an actual scanner that can pull more than P codes.) With only 8k miles since the rebuild I'd lean towards electrical but also its a 4l60e so I wouldnt count anything out.
Here's a good guide on typical symptoms I always use to use as a reference (went through my fair share of these in multiple vehicles).

I had similar symptoms on a 4L65e tranny years ago. Brutally hard shifts. I was told the tranny had gone into ‘max long shift adapt’, likely because of a failed or sticking solenoid. The TCM senses that shifts are taking too long so it goes to maximum line pressure to compensate. Or something like that. I believe they replaced the high pressure solenoid and all was good. That’s about all I can recall about it from 20 years back, other than my extended warranty covered it and it only cost me the $50 deductible.

Hey Guys. Thank you all very much for the responses- I truly appreciate it 💯
I should have mentioned - I recently replaced ALL the Solenoids
But I'm gonna have the codes read by a legit professional 👍

Yeah its so hard to say with those transmissions. They do some really screwy stuff from time to time even when their not hurt. The one in my TBSS would shift hard 1-2 and flair 2-3 sometimes and then reverse it the next time. Best of luck on the fix, keep us updated.
