Help with engine oil analysis on potential Z06 purchase?
I'm looking at a 2009 Z06 with around 20k on the clock for $45k asking
Heads done (cnc ported, milled .030, etc... ), Dual Springs w/Ti Retainers, Ferrera Exhaust Valves, etc....
The oil analysis shows concern for Titanium and a few other things.
Should I be concerned or am I in the clear and at what threshold is the titanium in the oil an indication of a mandatory tear down? (or is 21 not a big deal?)
Thanks!

I have not run OA in a car but we do it in aircraft all the time. Seems as though its a bit of a Schrodinger cat because you know what you have but have no idea where it is going.
When we get a bad report back on an aircraft engine, it will normally say "resample after 25 hours".
Assuming you havent pulled the trigger on the deal, maybe they would provide previous results (could request them from the lab but I doubt they will give that info up).
With a heavily(?) modified engine, I would be a bit cold on it.

It's going up really fast. 2 ppm at 13k, 10 ppm at 17k and 21 ppm at 18k. I would run away.

When was all that work done? If it was done relatively recently, it's not unreasonable to think that's the head work wearing in.
At the end of the day, an 09 Z with 20k on it for $45k,with fixed heads, depending on options and colors, has kinda of priced that less than perfect UOA in.

There's a good chance the Ti is coming from the aftermarket retainers. Very easy fix compared to bad rods. How is the hot oil pressure?

Who did the heads is just as important as having the heads done. The titanium on my Callaway SC'd Z06 with stock heads has been 0 on each analysis. Currently 23k miles and due for another change in March. I am only getting about 1k - 1.5k miles between changes (annual).

If the heads were done in the last 5000 miles, and the titanium started showing up in the last 5000 miles like the UPA shows, it's a pretty safe bet it's the valve retainers in the heads.
