Default Gen 2 Morimoto Tails installed

Just wanted to post a pick of the gen 2 moromoto pics on my car. Like everyone else the tabs all broke on the connections and if you are installing these be careful not to let the bolt clip up top slip off......ask me how I know. I had ordered red and ended up getting the dark smoked which initially irritated me but I think it looks great. Did the backup lights and side markers too.

I want to like them, but I think the first gen is better. The light output difference on mine was huge.

I'm don't disagree I actually tried to hurry up and order the last round of gen 1 red and they sent me gen two after a few month wait. I just figured people would want to see what they look like. They look great lit up.

Timely thread. I too installed mine yesterday. I got the red version. IMO these Gen 2s look a lot more bright than the first gen and the “light pipe” is much more uniform / harder to see individual led’s.

Oh and the integrated reverse lights are stupid bright. Like hurt your eyes as if you are staring at the sun kinda bright. Will help at night backing up there is no doubt although they are borderline obnoxious. 😛

OP, those look like the factory smoked/unpainted version. IMHO the best are the options with Dark Smoke Center as the others look too much like eyeballs, but too expensive for me (I'm not judging anyone with the means to pick them up!). I wonder what that dark smoke paint does to the "obnoxiously bright" reverse lamps.

Thinking I'd also want to buy a rear diffuser without reverse lights if I COULD afford them. It really never does end, does it?

I like the red better than the smoke after seeing both. Very well done product and like you said they are stupid bright.

Smoked look great on your blue Vette! I don’t think folks can go wrong either way. The quality of the lights, the integrated resistors and the connectors are all top notch.

Are they expensive? You bet… but in this case it’s a “you get what you pay for” IMO. I’m excited to see what some of the smoked center and other options look like as well.

Can you tell by the photos below ... are my lights the Gen 1 or Gen 2 ?

BTW, I installed them back in May, 2020

Those are Gen 1. The Gen 2s were just released.

These look much more aftermarket whereas the 1st gen looks like they could pass for oem, imo.

Looks good the person in back you should be able to see you, specially when hitting the brakes.

I like them - not enough to replace my Gen 1's but they are nice.
