What exactly is it? I have a '12 GS.

I think instead of an Alternator - with K63 RPO -- we get a Generator. Big black thingy about 6 inches in diameter and about 12 inches long, used them in the 50s a lot.

Generator has since just become another term for alternator unlike what it was in the 50s. Kinda just an accepted terminology thing, no real difference

Chrysler was the first to use alternators and they may have had a trademark on the name. GM called their alternators :"Delcatron Generator"
