Garage door opener on visor

Garage door opener on visor
My garage door opener on my visor has never worked. I bout my 2006 Z a year ago with 2400 miles, now 4700 miles. Now I’m using a clip on garage door opener which I hate. I followed the directions carefully multiple times. I did it outside the garage and from inside the garage. I’ve programmed several vehicles on this garage door without issue. I think I need a replacement. Any idea where to get one? Is there something I’m missing?

The newer garage doors have a updated security + 2.0 protocol signal, and would guess that you need a bride to make it work with the visor openner in the car.
So that that note, how many lights on your visor, and what garage door opener, since will bank that is has the new security + 2.0 protocol, and either visor type will need a Compatibility Bridge to make them work with it.
If single light, then your visor is homelink that was used up to about 2007, and if three lights, the Lear used in the later models instead.
Again, depending on the type of visor, will need that type of link to make it work.
The down and dirty, you get the needed type bride link and it plugs into the outlet for your opener in the ceiling. The link will come with a garage type opening, so you learn it to your visor opener, then put the door operator into learn mode, so when you press the visior button that is not security + 2.0 protocol, it send the older type signal to the link, and the door opener itself, learns the links security plus code that the bride link sends to it
As for the bride (homelink bridge or lear bridge, and need to get the correct one), are around $30 on amazon.

My 2012 Grand Sport 3 button visor - it works with one of my Sears Openers and it wont work with the other Sears Opener.. it was very easy to program with the one that works. tried for hours to get the other one to work.

Garage door opener
As stated above the protocol has changed and you need a bridge.
I changed out my old Craftsman garage door opener in 2020, for a Chamberlain B1381T. Neither my 2005 Vette nor my 2006 4 Runner visor garage door openers worked. Had to go with an Amazon Liftmaster 855lm Chamberlain OEM Homelink Compatibility Bridge.
Converts and accepts a non-compatible home link signal into a security+ 2.0 Compatible signal

- Compatible with vehicles that are equipped with home link
- Can be programmed to work with more than one security+ 2.0 garage door opener
- Kit contains a repeater and a "learning" remote

I used a bridge for awhile to get my garage door opener to work for my 2012. It worried me some because the bridge was always warm to the touch, just felt a little too warm. Then one day it stopped working. After that I said forget it and just kept the remote in the car after that.

Mine will not work with the car close to the garage door. It will work while I am in the street turning in or as I turn in. Not sure but I think lowering the visor helps.

I have two newer cars which connect just fine to my chamberlain garage door opener. will my newer cars have to be reprogrammed to this bridge? Or will they continue to work with their current programming?

The Homelink repeater eliminates the upgraded security (rolling code) of the newer Liftmaster and Chamberlain systems. It is a security risk.
