1. Always remember never to cheap out on tires.
2. Never forget to always remember never to cheap out on tires.
3. Always remember to never forget to always remember to never cheap out on tires.

Repeat ad nauseam. Then repeat some more.

Wide tires, water on the road, and enough speed will put your car right on top of that water...your wheels literally become skis. Slow down in rain.

Thanks for all the advice. Lessons were learned for sure. Anyone else reading this, learn from my mistake!

Glad you are ok! You got off light
Curious how worn the tires are. I'd not worry too much about the nannies - you can always check they're working by triggering the abs, go to a parking lot and try to drift the rear end out - if the nannies kill the fun, you're fine.
Vettes are (relatively) light cars with steamroller tires - Hydroplaning is higher risk than 'most' cars.

I've had HANKOOK VENTUS V12 EVO2 for around 10+ years. Replaced the rears 3-4 years ago - nearly worn out. Front's still have 7/32 on um but tire rot has me a little spooked to keep driving on them..
I'll replace with the same tire. I'd give them a solid 8 on wear, traction, even on wet roads is good, but below 40°F, it doesn't take much at all to break loose. Haven't driven in snow, but can only imagine that to be almost impossible.

Best tires I ever had was on a C5 and were Goodyear F1 GSD 3's. Didn't make any sizes for the C6, and since learned they have been discountinued.

Lessoned learned... .Glad it did not cost you a vehicle. If the tires are not at fault, I would be looking at the car's social media posts.... Maybe it was trying to emulate a Mustang it saw on tik tok or youtube.

I am very glad you are ok.

A few weeks back I drove home from a friends house in an absolute deluge. Bucketing down with rain. I was expecting it to be sketchy, but somehow, it wasn't at all. I could accelerate as long as I didn't hit meaningful boost.

285/335 Michelin PSS ZP, with 7/32nd of tread all the way around, 8,000 miles old. It didn't even twitch once somehow.

Tires are everything. This is my 3rd set of PSS I have had across 3 cars. Even down to 40 degrees and wet they are well behaved. 2/3 hybrid all season, 1/3 R compound.

another factor that I didn't see mentioned (or was it?), that may or may not apply in this situation, is the ambient temperature. for me, even brand new tires (Michelin Pilot super sport,, R/F). in contact with any moisture can easily lose traction,
but it's the cold weather that I also notice a traction issue. Even in the San Francisco Bay area. our winter temps will get into the high 29's, but usually around mid 30's - 40's. Luckily I've only had black ice incident. (New Years day 2017).
doing only 25mph with a slight downhill slope, had the car drift into the on-coming lane (luckily no traffic). was able to get it under control before the upcoming turn.

Default A short tutorial on hydroplaning.

Hydroplaning can be expected at a speed of 9 X the Square root of the tire pressure. For example: tire pressure 33psi = SQ root of 5.75 X 9 = 51.7 mph This is the speed at which the tire begins to lift on the water film. Poor tread channels will of course lower that speed. Moral of the story, heavy rain, slowdown.

That's for planes... Not cars.
