Hey all, looking for some advice on a good back up camera. I appreciate any input you can provide. Here are my wants:
1. Uses my Android smartphone for the display
2. Camera mounts to the licence plate frame.
3. Comes on whenever car is in reverse- automatically
4. Camera is wired (not battery powered)
5. Connects to phone wirelessly (phone does not need to be powered by a cable.
6. Can be later used with a new head unit if and when I get one.

1.) Never heard of that option, 2, 3 4 are 95% of them, 5 again don't think this exisits. 6, most good head units will accept a backup camera.

I have a stand alone display with front and rear cameras that cover 2,3,4&6, but I think you are SOL trying to get all of that in one unit. I think the connection lag time alone would make 1 & 5 not feasible.

as the others have stated, 1 and 5 aren't feasible without some serious custom work (if at all)... might as well bite the bullet and buy a head unit and back up camera at the same time.

I was trying to go cheap, guess I'll save up and get a new head unit. Also, fathers day is coming up, 🤔

don't go cheap, you'll regret it later - save up and get what you really want. Doing it right the first time saves money.
