Default To wide body or not wide body, that is the question!

Quick backstory for context:
Back in November of 2015, I was court ordered to liquidate my 2006 Z51 C6 to pay my ex-wife's legal fees....which sucks because I had done all the mechanical modifications to get the car where I wanted.

I was lucky enough to buy the car back 5 years later, with only 2,000 miles put on the car. (Car currently has 42,000 miles)

Aside from the numerous cosmetic/interior upgrades, below is what's currently in the car from a mechanical standpoint:
PRC Stage 2.5 heads
Vararam CAI
Ported FAST 102 intake
Comp Cams Spinmonster 230/234 .612(XFI)/.598(XER) 114 + 2 LSA
SLP Underdrive pulley
Yank 3600 stall
Kooks 1 7/8” Longtube headers
Kooks catted X pipe
Corsa Sport Exhaust

So the question is this....I really want a widebody. Do I sell this car, that I have a history with and poured a lot of effort into and buy a widebody car and start all over?

Or I do throw widebody parts at this car?

I may be biased, I say go for it, I did on my 2006 Z51 four years ago. I did all the work myself, including paint and body work. I spent a total of $8,500.00 on all the parts, paint, tires, wheels, and Racemesh grills. I prefer to work in the shop instead of shopping for a new car.

Gorgeous car, I think a set of wide rear fenders would set it off nice... I say go for it... I know the easier thing to do would be sell yours and buy a wide body but is it really easier when you consider all the time and effort you have in it so far? Everyone tells me im nuts for manual swapping my car for the same reason but to me its worth keeping what I have... plus I enjoy working on it so why not. Good thing with your car being blade silver you could probably luck into a set of fenders in the right color if you search long enough. My vote is give that ole girl some thick in the back and let it ride. always remember you can do it in stages, start with the back then do the front later if you choose too. Personally i dig the half/wide look

This is what I am thinking, but I'm biased......lol

I set a budget of 5k to do the rear conversion complete.

Go wide body and ENJOY! I ordered GM parts and did the swap myself after having the fenders painted by a friends shop. I use a spacer for the stock rear wheels and have drag radials on the 19x12 wheels.

I dont see any reason you couldn't get it done for 5k, You can run a spacer on your current wheels and probably get them to the right offset until you can find a set at the right one.

I actually found a complete set (front & rear) of OEM Z06 Spyders powder coated black with tires for $1200.

Thinking I should pull the trigger on those ASAP.

Wide body and keep it! It would be cheaper than buying a GS/Z06/ZR1 in today's market. Plus, your car is so nice looking I imagine it would be difficult to part with.

Congrats on the ex-wife thing! A judge commuted my sentence 11 years ago and I was released from my marriage. Happiest day of my life! Been single ever since and LOVE IT! Nobody tells me what to do any more...not even me!

I'd keep it and do what you want with it. I am actually in the same scenario with my 05. I've done some mods and have some planned. I tossed around selling it and moving on to something else. I'm about 80% sure that I am going to keep it as a toy\project. You already lost it once and were willing to buy it back. Tells you it was meant to be.

Congrats on your escape!

Mine was costly, but worth the happiness in the end....took me every bit of those 6 years to get back on my feet, but I did it!

The car does have a massive amount of sentimental value to me, be hard to part ways with it again.

Much appreciated!

Will probably spend the winter/offseason gathering parts then knock it out in the spring.

You won't be able to use the front wheels unless you do a complete conversion and your budget won't cover that.

True, but I'll have the fronts for when I eventually get to that point.

I think I had rear wheels and tires budgeted around $1500

It's a matter of personal choice, but I actually don't care for the look of the widebody, looks fat and swollen to me. Of course, I wouldn't turn one down if the right deal came up! But that's not your question, I know.

I say if you want a wide body, convert that car. It's a beautiful car that: 1)you've already made mostly the way you want it, and 2)you've got the history with it. I wouldn't give either of those things up. Keep going and finish making it exactly as you want it.

Besides, isn't it kind of a Phoenix symbol for you? Rising from the ashes and all that? Maybe a thought for a personalized plate...

Good points all the way around.

Another huge plus is the car was bought outright at pre pandemic pricing.

Checking the current market on C6/7 widebody cars is quite the shock!
