To wide body or not wide body, that is the question!

I did it to my C6. The shape is so much better but it is very dependent upon you getting the paint perfect. Mine was white and it was off ever so slightly. It wasn't enough to make me reverse it but it was always on my mind that in certain light it wasn't perfect. It was odd that at night it could be spotted under a street light but in sunlight it was good. Silver is definitely a hard color to match if your plan is to just paint the fenders then install them. The better route is to have the shop blend it into the doors to get close to perfect which requires the fenders be on the car. I'm no paint expert but painting them and then installing followed by a blend is the way to go.

So I have a random question for those of you that have gone from a base rear to a wide body rear. Do you find it harder to line the car up in a parking spot when backing up now? I swear it was easier to back up my cousins base than it is my wide body and everyone tells me I'm crazy, I think its a perception thing with the fender sticking out. Maybe I just suck at backing up lol.

I had the advantage of pulling the old quarters (and fuel door) off the car and sending them along with the new panels for paint.
That was a huge aid in color matching.....to this point I've only seen the panels in garage lighting and overcast natural light.....have no had any direct sun yet (how depressing is that) but to this point the match is fantastic without having to blend anything yet.

I did my old narrow body the same way you did…GM parts and go. Such a nice improvement, cosmetically. If you have z51 or z06 sway bars it should handle fine as well.

Nice thread, car looks good with a wide "booty"!
Thought I'd share my story/opinion.
I bought my base model back in 2020. 2005 M6 1LT 62k mi black on black. From the day I bought it, I had wanted to fully widebody it and convert to big brakes. I ended up getting widebody wheels, which I ran on the narrow body for close to two years (WITH ZERO ISSUES; for those who want to argue about that) and eventually got drilled/slotted rotors, which I was happy with for sometime. I also ended up doing headers, cam, fbo stuff, and absolutely loved the car. It was my first Corvette and it was great to me. Although, I still wanted the widebody look and big brakes. So I go and start doing serious research and come to the conclusion it will cost in the realm of $10k just to widebody it, and close to $5k for the brakes (which are discontinued and hard to come by in used condition). Moving forward, I decided about the time you started this thread to try and sell my car. I bought it for $15k w/ a $12k book value, and somehow managed to sell it for $25k w/ an $11k book value LOL. Sold it on the 12th of November and bought my Z06 on the 15th. That was what worked out the best for me, and I truly believe I'm happier with the Z then I ever would've been with a widebodied base model. That being said, different strokes for different folks. Your car is stunning and I love the silver! (might be partial because I just bought a silver Z06 LOL)

If I was starting fresh or my base car was bone stock or lightly modded...I'd have followed the same path as you.
But given all the work, high end parts and the fact it's a low mileage 3LT Z51 that runs 10s...this was the smart play for me!

I don't notice any difference when backing in. It's only 1.5"/side.
I needed more tires in the rear. It was a performance thing rather than aesthetics but I like it.

Both base and wide bodies have the same mirrors, so unless you fold them before backing in, they stick out beyond the fenders. And good luck backing in with them folded. That was a determining factor for me because I’ve got about 3” a side clearance through the door opening with the mirrors out. I’ve had lots of practice backing up with just the side mirrors in numerous vehicles, so I can do it no problem.
