Thinking about getting a cold air intake and was wondering what everyone’s opinion was on the best one. Thanks

General consensus if you have to get one would be the Snake Charmer by Vararam...... I just went with the Z06 air bridge and a good filter. Not much gain for the money you pay for aftermarket honestly

First all C8’s have “cold air intakes.” Air comes through two air ducts, starting in the rear fender scoops leading to the central air filter.

I installed an oiled cotton low restriction air filter by aFe over a year ago. Get some increased”sucking sound!” They also sell a complete replacement air duct system with two conical larger area filters instead of a replacement for the central air filter. Lot more expensive and does quantify hp increase in dyno test. Not that much and like others depends on what you believe. But it like some others, get cold air from the rear fender side scoops

There are some others that get air via the Truck. May be larger area and less restrictive but air is no COLDER!

This right here! The vararam actually works and on an efficient enough combo, you'll actually see positive manifold pressure from the ram air scoop of the vararam forcing air into the car.

Here's a picture of a log of my C6 with a vararam. Notice the MAP sensor is at 102 KPA which is 0.2 psi of positive pressure.

So...how many of you, honestly, could understand the above graphic? I think the OP is looking for what we feel is best. He is not looking for complex graphics that explain nothing to a layman. But, for those who do understand it, asd has given graphic evidence.

Though it is not a majority, the most-often recommended CAI on this forum is the Vararam. Many feel it provides real-world benefits.

IMO unless you have an ls2 the OEM is plenty good enough....The snake charmer may provide a little power boost at speed but it is incredible cheap made and cheap looking and some cars have hydro locked with them..


Just get the z06 filter insert and be happy...imo.

I got the slp blackwing, don't know if it makes more power but it looks nice and wasn't too expensive.

Some will understand it. That's why I also made the point of explaining what the KPA is showing as positive pressure, also proof as to it working not a feeling it works. Can't argue with data. Does it work? yes absolutely. I just didn't want to provide the typical " i have one i think it works" answer when in reality most the time the people think something works but have no data to support the claim.

Everyone always says "it'll hyrdo lock" You would need to submerge the car's front bumper completely over the opening to suck enough water up to hydro lock it. I've had a varamam for 7+ years. I lived in Central Louisiana and daily drove with it. Don't drive through a flood and you're going to be fine. I drove from Dallas to Central Louisiana in the middle of a storm it was absolutely fine. The last 4 years I've lived in the coastal Carolinas once again we get rain a lot. Never once had an issue and my car is also pretty low. If you submerge a c6 to the point of the whole nose in the water any intake is sucking up water including the OEM one.

I went with the Ram-Air SS. They claim it makes good gains, but won't really know since I'm still breaking in the clutch before I get the custom tune. Plus I also added longtubes, so I won't really have an idea on the real gains over what it was stock. For me I loved the almost stock look of it.

I've had a Vararam on my 2006 LS2 M6 for over three years and find it to be a fine addition. I've used K&N filters on a few of my other cars. Then I saw some comparisons and didn't like low filtration of the K&N vs stock and Vararam.

FWIW, when I was running my stock GS intake at highway speeds the IAT was within 1-2 deg of the ambient. It would go up in traffic, but quickly drop as soon as you were moving again.
